The Deputy Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly,Rt. Hon. Princess Felicia Bassey has scored Governor Udom Emmanuel high on transparent and prudent management of the State's commonwealth.
Princess Bassey made the commendation at a public Hearing on a Bill for a Law to establish Akwa Ibom State Audit Service Commission, offices of the Auditor General for Akwa Ibom State and Auditor General for Local Governments and other matters connected therewith, held at the Assembly Complex,recently.
The frontline woman lawmaker who declared the event open on behalf of the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly,Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, hinted that it was good and assuring to see the governor bring his globally acknowledged expertise in funds management, personal integrity, and strict adherence to fiscal documents in the administration of the State. This, the Deputy Speaker said was evident in the governor's ability to keep the State afloat what would have been economic woes common in other States of the federation during the Covi'19 pandemic.
She emphasized that the resultant impact is further demonstrated in the volume of massive infrastructure, agriculture, human capacity development and progressive industrialization drive of the administration.
The deputy Speaker who also double as the Chairperson,Association of Female Legislator of Nigeria, further stated that the Executive Bill sent to the House of Assembly to study, dissect,and counter- balance inherent arguments and provisions in the bill towards fine-tuning it for further scrutiny and dressing to make it a law, shows the commitment of the Governor to run a well documented government where strategic financial matters are handled by competent hands whose professionalism, informed analysis and inputs government will depend on in driving its fiscal expectations.
The deputy Speaker who is also the Member representing Okobo State Constituency reiterated the resolve of the 7th Assembly in running inclusive and participatory legislature, where people will be carried along in critical deliberations as true democracy demands.
According to Princess Bassey, the Governor has changed the course of history, impacted lives, built bridges where there was none, and laid a solid foundation for infrastructure and industrialization.
The public hearing was one of many in a series of interactions with members of the public on critical matters of legislation, which the 7th Assembly has adopted as a policy of participatory democracy.
