Dilapidated Hospital Oruko: Precious Selong Seeks Government Prompt Intervention

Worried by the inability of indigenes of  Oruku to access quality and affordable healthcare services the member representing Uruefong/Oruko State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Precious Selong has presented before the House, a motion on Notice about the alarming infrastructural decay at the General Hospital in Oruko.

While noting the critical place health infrastructural facilities plays in the sound health and well-being of constituents especially in the rural communities, the Lawmaker informed the House that the only secondary health facility, General Hospital, Oruko in Urueoffong/ Oruko Local Government Area which was established by the State Government to cater for the health needs of the entire local government and its environs as well as serve as referral center to nearby primary health facilities is presently near collapse. 


She expressed concern over the rate of infrastructural decay in the health facility to include dilapidated structures, water shortage and epileptic power supply, Non-functional medical equipments, Poor health facility and shortage of manpower, Poor condition of the theater, wards and labour room amongst others.

"Disturbed that patients from this locality now resort to travelling long distances to 

General Hospital, Iquita, Oron, even under emergency situations thereby leading to increased mortality rate especially in pregnant women and newborns; 

"Cognizant of the clear provisions Section 14 Sub-section (2)(b) of the constitution the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN), 1999 (as altered) which states that, “The security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government”

Hon. Selong tasked the House to  urge the Akwa Ibom State Hospital Management Board and the Ministry of Health to undertake a visit to the Hospital and ascertain the level of dilapidation with a view to revamping the Hospital, drawing the attention of the Akwa Ibom State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Implementation Committee to this Health Facility while also urging the Budget Office to capture and include this project in the 2024 budget with a view to ensuring its execution and implementation. 

The Speaker, Rt. Hon Udeme Otong after due consideration, referred the motion to the House Committee on Health to laise with relevant agencies and report back to the House in two weeks

Financial Impropriety, Abuse Of Power: AKHA Receives Petition Against Ikono Chairman

  The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today during Plenary received a petition against the Council Chairman of Ikono, Hon.
