Budget Defense: Non-Accreditation In College Of Science Nung Ukim Hindering Admissions Says Registrar

The Lack of Accreditation currently bedeviling the College of Science and Technology Nung Ukim in  Ikono Local Government Area is said to be hindering the school from carrying out admissions thereby stalling academic processes.

Giving clarification to newsmen after their Budget Defense at the House of Assembly today, the Registrar of the College Dr. Sampson Owodekpe noted that the College being a new school, needed to do accreditation in more courses. "The school is a new school, and you know that there are rules and regulations, you must get accreditation from National Board for Technical Education, they are the ones to give clearance to admit since it's a Tertiary Institution" adding that it is now getting to two sessions now of not being able to carry out admissions.

He listed the nine courses that needed urgent accreditation having being approved by government to include Agric Technology, Electrical/Electronics Technology, Computer Technology, Science Laboratory Technology, Business Administration, Accountancy, Public Administration, Computer Science and Statistics.

"we are done with the aspect of infrastructure, we have constructed the Science Laboratory Complex that will take care of the science courses, we have also constructed the Engineering complex that will take care of the engineering courses that we are about to commence so we are now waiting for equipment, furniture and manpower because we will also need recruitment, hopefully that will be done first quarter of next year.

Elder Effiong Essien on his part while presenting the proposals of the office of the head of Civil Service informed the Hon. Itorobong led Committee on Finance nd Appropriations that N16.2m was budgeted for recurrent expenditure whileN13m was for revenue projections for 2025 fiscal year.

Other Ministries and MDAs who also presented their estimates for 2025 were Council for Arts and Culture, APICO,  Accountant Generals Office, Office for the State Auditor General, Office of the Deputy Governor, College of Education, Health Insurance Board, AKISIEC, and Alternative Dispute Resolution.  

The Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Hon. Itorobong Etim gave assurances that the committee is determined too ensure that the budget goes the process of finetuning tasking Ministries and MDAs who felt they need some augmentation to ensure that they putt such request into  writing to enable the committee feed in such were necessary during their mark-up session.
