The immoral video recently trending in the social media, where a particular woman who claims to come from Akwa Ibollm State insolently cast a slur on the leadership of the l continues to receive severe condemnations from well-meaning and responsible Akwa Ibom women.
In its reaction to the said video which has caused no little tension and distraction in the polity, a socio-political organization in the State, Nigerian League of Women Voters (NILOWV), has risen to condemn in totality the intent and content of the video and promptly issued warnings to perpetrators of such jokes to immediately refrain and beg God for forgiveness, considering the solemnity of the Easter Season.
Describing the act as a gross contempt and desecration of the high cultural values and norms that Akwa Ibom women represent at domestic and international fronts, the Secretary of NILOWV, Dr. Ini Adakpan, speaking in Uyo, yesterday said it was shocking and unbelievable that at a time every hand should be on deck to tackle the rampaging Corona virus, some unpatriotic persons in the society would abuse the lockdown period and sit in the comfort of their rooms to manufacture useless and unprofitable contents purely aimed at propagating falsehood, blackmailing hard-earned reputation of individuals, and disturbing public peace and focus.
Dr. Adakpan further stated that deliberately offloading on the social media space such loathsome video that has no element of truth or any connection with the prevalent circumstances in the State and the world over clearly proves the insensitivity, senselessness and evil motives of the masterminds. She observed that, among other negative effects on our sociology, the video was a direct attack on the culture and dignity of Akwa Ibom womanhood as well as the State’s corporate existence.
In her words, “The video has the potential to pollute the minds of the growing population of Akwa Ibom girls and women, alter their aptitude and attitude towards decent living, and thereby pose greater danger to their general philosophy of life. We refute and condemn the video in all its ramifications while advising married men and women to respect the sanctity of marriage and marital vows.
In fact, if not nibbed in the bud, the video can become a dangerous and virulent virus that spreads like gangrene among the gullible and vulnerable in the society. Just imagine the time somebody would launch such a video into public space. It is very sad”.
Speaking further, Dr, Ini Adiakpan stated: “However, I must use this occasion to emphasize that Akwa Ibom women are women of strong cultural and altruistic values as observable in their industriousness, dignity, respect to constituted authority, and laudable sense of accomplishments that come with legal labour. Akwa Ibom women are no prostitutes or parasites who reap where they did not sow. We strongly condemn this video that seeks in vain to stain our collective morality and womanhood. I therefore call on the brains behind the video to turn a new leaf and rather engage in worthy endeavours that would bring honour and glory to God and humanity”.
The Secretary of the body nevertheless commended the Governor of the State, His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, for his pragmatic approaches to containing the Corona pandemic, demonstrating laudable empathy to the masses through provision of palliatives, thus bringing hope of a better tomorrow through his quality leadership.
Commending all responsible Akwa Ibom women in general, Dr. Adiakpan particularly appreciated Her Excellency, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel, for being a paragon of what a typical Akwa Ibom woman represents as well as her advocacies through FEYrep that encourages entrepreneurship, self-sustenance and sustainable moral values. She said lofty steps like these further nullify attempts by anybody to discredit Akwa Ibom women.
Dr, Adaikpan finally called on all Akwa Ibomites and residents in the State to continue to remain law-abiding, increase their level of personal hygiene and adhere to all precautionary measures and directives of government in grappling with prevalent situations.
