A'Ibom @ 35: Aniekan Bassey Eulogises the Selflessness of Gov. Emmanuel, others

The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has eulogized the selflessness of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, Obong Victor Attah, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and past leaders of the state, over the giant strides the state has achieved at 35.

Speaker Bassey stated this Friday, September 23, 2022, while delivering a goodwill message, during the celebration of Akwa Ibom at 35, at the Nest of Champion.

Referencing Marissa Meyer an American Novelist, the PDP Candidate for Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District race said, "Even in the future, the story begins with once upon a time. Once upon a time 35 years ago, the dreams of our forebears came to materialization. Akwa Ibom State was created. We sang with joy as it was mentioned that the state will be the envy of other states. In due course, past leaders closed ranks and ensured that the state grew in lips and bounds. I commend them for such resilience and selflessness". Aniekan stated

Reminiscing about the past, Aniekan said the state took a turn for the better beginning from 1999 as it experienced astronomical growth under Obong Victor Attah and later Senator Godswill Akpabio.

"Outside the late Akpan Isemin, Obong Attah laid a solid foundation upon which the next governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, built on. There was massive improvement in infrastructure and astronomical growth in other areas".

"Udom Emmanuel came on board exactly 7 years and 6 months ago, took the state by storm and put it on the world map of fame. He conquered the land and even the air. In the small town of Uyo, Ibom Air, the pride of Nigeria's aviation sector was birthed. With what Udom Emmanuel has done so far, Akwa Ibom State is going places and the future is bright" Aniekan added.

He noted that 35 years of statehood calls for celebration. He urged the people of the state to follow the path of peace, unity and support the completion agenda and succession plan of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Akwa Ibom Assembly Bans Sign-Out Celebrations, Orders Immediate Enforcement Across Schools

By Asuquo Edem  The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has adopted a resolution calling for the immediate prohibition of all forms of sign-out celebrations in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions across the state, citing growing concerns over moral decadence, violence, substance abuse and other anti-social behaviours associated with the practice. The resolution followed the consideration of a Motion on Notice sponsored by the Member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency, Hon. Udobia Friday Udo, during plenary. Leading debate on the motion, Hon. Udobia argued that while educational institutions are established to promote learning, discipline, moral values and responsible citizenship, the culture of sign-out celebrations by graduating students has increasingly degenerated into activities that undermine these ideals. According to him, what was once intended as a celebration of academic accomplishment has, in recent years, become synonymous with indecent dressin...

AKHA Rejects Uduak Ekpoufot's Motion to Stop Dog-Meat Consumption

By Asuquo Edem  Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today rejected a motion brought before it by the member representing Etinan State Constituency, Hon. Uduak Ekpoufot. The motion presented before the House seeks to discontinue the consumption and sale of dog meat in Akwa Ibom State has failed to scale through the floor of the State House of Assembly after it received no seconder during plenary. Hon. M Ekpoufot, raised strong concerns over the inhumane slaughter of dogs, the unhygienic conditions involved, and the serious public-health risks associated with dog-meat consumption. He argued that the methods used to kill dogs were cruel, often involving strangulation, blunt-force trauma, or repeated blows, leading to severe animal suffering. The lawmaker further warned that poorly processed dog meat exposes consumers to dangerous pathogens such as rabies, salmonella, trichinella and other parasites, stressing that the practice has been banned in several countries due to safety co...
