Aspirants who hope to realize their ambition either as elected officials of local government council or officials of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State have been advised to shun underhand tactics and instead focus on convincing those with the votes about the genuineness of their ambition.
Elder Aniekan Akpan, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State handed down the advice during an interaction over forthcoming events in the party.
He urged aspirants to keenly observe and key into the new political culture in the state introduced by the Governor and leader of the party, Pastor Umo Eno, as it will enhance their cause and brighten their chances.
Explaining, Akpan said the culture abhors blackmail and underhand tactics while it simultaneously strengthens sincerity in politics and gives fillip to service-based ambitions.
The party, he remarked, has always pushed for these ideals but acknowledged that these aims have been taken to impressive levels by the leader of the party and Governor of the state.
"We must consolidate on these new gains influenced by both the leadership style and approach to political service adopted by the Governor", Akpan stated.
On the local government elections, the party chairman re-echoed a reminder on the position of the Governor on the preference for council chairmen who would reside in their local government areas so as to feel and understand the needs of the people.
"This is what aspirants should concern themselves with. They should go sell their manifesto to their people in line with the ARISE Vision and see how to convince them that they will live with them to deepen development in the rural communities as envisioned and passionately pursued by our leader, the Governor."
On March 30, 2024, the Peoples Democratic Party held a statewide ward meeting across the 31 local government areas of the state to strengthen its ranks and fortify grassroot structures of the party. It also used the opportunity to welcome thousands of decampees who returned to the party recently.
The chairman also used the opportunity to urge members of the party to prepare for its forthcoming Congress in June as endorsed by the national leadership of the party.
