Hard Times Await Criminal Elements In A'Ibom As Police Boss Pledges Partnership With AKHA




Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Waheed Ayilara, has pledged collaboration with Lawmakers of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) towards the steming of criminality in the State.


Ayilara who was at the Assembly Complex, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo on a courtesy call on the Speaker and members, today, May 9th, 2024, noted that the major responsibility of government at all levels was to provide adequate security for it's citizens. 


 The Police Commissioner, accompanied by his Assistant in charge of Administration, Mr. Asuquo Ebong on the visit, posited that it was a rare privilege for him to be saddled with the responsibilities of ensuring the safety of lives and property of the Akwa Ibom people.


He enumerated the areas of concern where the Akwa Ibom Police Command needs collaboration from the Honourable members to include, boundary issues between the State  and the neighbouring states of Cross River; Abia and part of Rivers.


He also enlisted the cooperation of the  leadership and members of the Assembly on farmers-herdsmen crisis experienced in Ikot Ekpene, Obot Akara and Ikono, cultism and kidnapping among other social vices, declaring the willingness  of the Akwa Ibom  Police Command under his watch to bring the ugly situation under control for peace to continue to reign in the state. 


The CP who has just resumed duties in Akwa Ibom expressed readiness to work as a team with Lawmakers of the eighth Assembly to ensure that the State is a sure heaven for it's citizens and investors, assuring them that the gunboats and vehicles recently donated to the Command by the state governor have been activated for effective security use.


In his response, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Elder ) Udeme Otong while congratulating the Commissioner of Police for his recent posting to the State, assured him that the Assembly would partner with him through feedback as representatives of the people at the grassroot to ensure that the State continue to enjoy the peace other States clamour for.


He noted with delight that Mr. Ayilara was not a greenhorn in security matters, when considering his rich profile, high level of exposure and experience in policing, advising him to see to the enforcement of the law against herdsmen in the state. 


Elder Otong, described the peace enjoyed across the state as aligning with the Arise agenda of the State governor and charged the security boss to ensure that such is sustained.
