Akwa Ibom Assembly Ratifies Appointment Of External Auditors For LG Auditor General






The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly ( AKHA) has ratified the appointment of an external auditor to the Office of Auditor General for Local Government. 


This was sequel to a letter for appointment of external auditors sent to the House by the office of the Auditor General for Local Government which was earlier committed to the House Committee on Public Accounts.


Presenting his report, the Chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Eric Akpan, informed the House that only one approval was required out of the three firms including Messr Ubokudom Etuk & Co of #3 Oku Street, Uyo, Edem Peters & Co of #141 Oron Road, Uyo and Mfon A. Etuk & Co of Suit SA III, Shopping Complex Uyo.


Hon. Akpan stated that all the firms were invited for interview by the Committee where their relevant practice books were examined, while their experiences were assessed through oral interview based on their expertise of the subject matter. 


Akpan added that other issues assessed included profiles of the firms, past performances, due diligence, professional competence and compliance with relevant legal and regulatory framework for practitioners in the industry.


The committee Chairman noted that after a thorough interview and examination of the professional expertise of the firms, it was observed that Ubokudom Etuk & Co was better established with experienced auditors who are qualified in different fields of audit and were therefore recommended by the committee for appointment.


The House thereafter dissolved into the Committe of the Whole to consider the Committee' recommendations where they were all adopted with a motion for adoption moved by the member representing Itu State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Kufreabasi Edidem and seconded by the member representing Essien Udim, Hon. Ukpong Akpabio.


The Speaker of of the  Assembly, Rt. Hon. ( Elder ) Udeme Otong, after the deliberations, directed the Clerk, Mrs. Nsikak-Abasi  Orok, to communicate the resolution of the Assembly to the appropriate authority for implementation.

Meanwhile, the House has adjourned plenary to Tuesday, 24th September 2024.
