2024 Supplementary Bill Scales Second Reading As AKHA Constitutes Committee On Nutrition, Food Security

 





Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly yesterday received the 2024 Supplementary Appropriation Bill. The Bill which was sent in by the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno was given accelerated hearing and passed through second reading.

Giving insights of the principles of the Bill, the member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob stated that the bill was essentially aimed at providing funds for the newly established ministries which were not captured in the 2024 budget adding that the capital provisions were centered on infrastructure and capital projects.

The Speaker, Elder Udeme Otong who presided over Plenary referred the Bill to the Committee on Finance and Appropriation to report back in one week.

In a related development, the House  has constituted the Committee on Nutrition and Food Security. The Speaker, Elder Udeme Otong mentioned the Member for Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, Hon. Moses Essien as the Chairman, with Hon. Ubong Attah of Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency as Vice Chairman and others as Committee members. 

The Speaker explained that the constitution of the new committee was in response to a directive from the Conference of Nigerian Speakers to all State Assemblies for implementation.

He disclosed that the Committee is to work directly with the National Assembly to ensure quality nutrition and food Security, as well as tackle health issues caused by poor nutrition in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaker Otong, further urged the Chairman and members of the Committee to be dedicated to their responsibilities for the best to be achieved for the masses in the state.

In the meantime, the House has adjourned its plenary to Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 10am.
