Why I am sponsoring Ukanafun, Oruk Anam indigenes to study Int'l trade in China — Idem

Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, on Sunday, shared his motivations for sponsoring his young constituents to pursue advanced studies in international trade in China.

Idem, while addressing members of the Ukanafun Youth for Good Governance who were on a courtesy visit to him at his residence in Uyo, emphasised that this overseas training initiative is one of the his ways of expressing gratitude and giving back to his constituents.

He stated that the programme aligns with his commitment to train 100 Akwa Ibom youths in essential skills that will enhance their efficiency and global competitiveness, enabling them to positively impact their communities, the state, and the nation.

Having recently sent off the 10th batch of young constituents from Ukanafun/Oruk Anam to China, Idem noted that the all-expenses-paid training is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive anywhere in the world.

“The world is a global village, and it is crucial to expose the youth from my constituency to modern technology in China. This exposure will broaden their horizons and prepare them to compete on a global scale, ensuring they do not fall behind in their future careers,” he explained.

Idem noted that his programme covers all expenses, including study fees, accommodation, meals, stipends, visa charges, flight tickets, health insurance, and other related costs, allowing the trainees to focus solely on their studies and strive for excellence.

The two-term federal lawmaker reflected on his own journey, stating, “The training and global exposure I have received over the years have enabled me to achieve what I have today. I believe this initiative is one of the best ways I can give back to my constituents.”

According to Idem, the beneficiaries will be valuable assets to both society and the global community upon their return to Nigeria. He added that some participants are already using their international contacts to create business opportunities in Nigeria and expressed optimism that they will serve as excellent ambassadors for Akwa Ibom State.

The training programme encompasses various disciplines, including Marine Spatial Planning and Blue Economic Development, Women Vocational Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Agricultural Ecology and Circular Agriculture, Intelligent Transportation/Infrastructure, and International Health, among others.

During the visit, Mr. Ediongsenyene Ntekpe, the National President of Ukanafun Youth For Good Governance, along with his executive committee members, presented an award of excellence in leadership to Rt. Hon. Idem in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the development of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.
