In a move aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare and promoting the welfare of his constituents, the Member representing Okobo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Bassey Pius Bassey, has enrolled 100 residents into the ARISE Health Insurance Scheme.
Bassey, said the initiative was designed to cushion the financial burden of healthcare on vulnerable individuals and families, noting that many residents often struggle to access medical treatment due to the high cost of healthcare services. He explained that the beneficiaries were carefully selected from various wards to ensure broad-based impact and inclusiveness.
According to him, the intervention aligns with the healthcare pillar of Governor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda, which places premium importance on the wellbeing of citizens through accessible and affordable healthcare. He commended the Governor for sustaining people-oriented programmes that prioritize social protection and improve living standards across the State.
The beneficiaries are expected to enjoy access to a range of healthcare services, including medical consultations, diagnosis and treatment of common ailments, maternal and child healthcare, and other essential medical interventions under the scheme. The Okobo lawmaker assured constituents of his continued commitment to supporting policies and programmes that promote healthier communities and improve the quality of life of the people.
Chief Stephen Edet Bassey, a former Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area and one of the beneficiaries of the ARISE Health Insurance Scheme registration, expressed profound gratitude to the Member representing Okobo State Constituency, Hon. Bassey, for the thoughtful intervention. He described the initiative as a timely and impactful gesture that would provide relief to many families who often struggle to meet the cost of healthcare services.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chief Bassey noted that access to quality healthcare remains a major concern for many residents, especially the elderly, low-income earners, and other vulnerable groups. He said the enrolment would give beneficiaries the confidence to seek medical attention whenever necessary without the fear of excessive medical bills.
He commended Governor Umo Eno for introducing and sustaining the ARISE Health Insurance Scheme as part of the ARISE Agenda, noting that the programme is already making a positive difference in the lives of Akwa Ibom people. According to him, the scheme demonstrates the government's commitment to prioritizing the health and welfare of citizens.
Chief Bassey assured the lawmaker that the beneficiaries would make good use of the opportunity and urged other public office holders to emulate such people-centred initiatives.
He prayed for continued wisdom and strength for both the Governor and the lawmaker as they work to improve the wellbeing of the people and deliver the dividends of democracy to their constituents.
