Gov Eno Takes Youth Empowerment To Grassroots, Commissions Uruan Youth Development Center

 




Governor Umo Eno has intensified his administration’s youth empowerment drive with the commissioning of a Youth Development Centre in Uruan Local Government Area, designed to provide young people with access to skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and enterprise development opportunities.

The centre, commissioned on behalf of the Governor by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South South Development Commission (SSDC), Princess Usoro Akpabio, is part of the state government’s plan to establish similar facilities across the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking at the commissioning, Akpabio described the facility as an investment in the potential of young people, urging beneficiaries to utilise and protect it.







She said the centre should serve as a platform where young people could transform ideas into businesses, acquire practical skills and build sustainable careers.

“For me, this occasion is particularly special because Uruan is home. To our youths, this centre is yours. Please use it, protect it and make it productive. Let ideas, businesses and success stories emerge from here,” she said.

She urged the youths to take ownership of the facility and maximise the opportunities it provides.

The Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Surv. Iniobong Ekpenyong, commended the state government for the establishment of the centre, describing it as a platform for young people to acquire relevant skills and develop their entrepreneurial capacity.

Ekpenyong said the facility represented the realisation of the Governor’s vision for the youths of Uruan, expressing confidence that they would make productive use of it.

He also commended the administration for interventions in agriculture, infrastructure, rural development, security and education, describing the projects as evidence of the implementation of the ARISE Agenda.

Also speaking, the Senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Sen. Aniekan Bassey, said the large turnout at the event reflected the people’s appreciation of the interventions of the state government in Uruan.

Bassey listed the establishment of Compassionate Homes, youth training programmes through DASAC and Ibom LED, appointments and other projects among the interventions he said had impacted the local government area.

He said the turnout was therefore not only about the new Youth Development Centre but also a demonstration of support for the Governor’s development vision.

The member representing Uruan State Constituency, Hon. Dr. Itoro Etim, the Political Adviser to the Governor, Akparawa Godwin Ntukudeh, and the Chairman of the State Board of Internal Revenue, Mr Okon Okon, also commended the initiative, saying it would expand access to opportunities for young people, particularly those in rural communities.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, and the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Uruan Chapter, Comrade Uduak Okokon, described the initiative as an opportunity to equip young people with the skills required to become entrepreneurs and employers of labour.

They said the centres would help prepare Akwa Ibom youths to participate competitively in the global economy.

The commissioning formed part of activities marking the 39th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State.

With the planned establishment of Youth Development Centres across the 31 local government areas, the state government is seeking to decentralise access to skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and enterprise development opportunities for young people across the state.
