Oron Federal Constituency PDP Disowns Etim Isong Over Attempt To Scuttle Zoning of Senatorial Seat .... Affirms 2027 As The Turn of Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency

Stakeholders and Stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oron Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State have disowned one of their own, Mr. Etim Isong, over his aspiration to contest the Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.


The party leaders also said the move was an attempt to scuttle the age-long zoning arrangement in the senatorial district and unanimously declared that 2027 remains the turn of Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency to complete its two terms of eight years in the Senate.




Their position was made public on Friday, September 25, 2026, during a press conference held at the Miami Estate Event Centre, Oron by Some Stakeholders and Members of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP)


Addressing journalists at the Press Conference,, Hon. Okon John Okon, who was flanked by Comrade Esin Bassey, Mr. Victor Edet Paul, Evangelist Uloh Anwanadung and Mr. Victor Bassey Eyo, said the stakeholders had unanimously resolved to uphold the zoning formula between the three federal constituencies that make up the senatorial district: Eket, Oron and Ikot Abasi.


According to him, the zoning arrangement has been responsible for the prevailing peace, unity and stability in Akwa Ibom South, adding that no peace loving politician should attempt to scuttle it.


“At this early stage, we want to advise those trying to use the name of Oro for the current Senate race to note that they are on their own; and that their mission is ill-advised and impracticable,” Okon said.


“He further said that PDP will definitely not be dragged into self-seeking political experimentation and adventure that can cause confusion, split votes and shrink support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno,” he added.


Hon. Okon maintained that Oro Nation would queue behind Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency to complete its tenure in the spirit of justice, equity and fairness.


He explained that supporting Ikot Abasi to complete its term would also encourage reciprocity when it becomes the turn of Oron federal constituency.


He however called on Mr. Etim Isong, whom he described as a son of Oro Nation to have a serious rethink now that it is not late for him to step down, vowing that the people of Oron would resist any attempt to truncate the zoning arrangement for any parochial interests.


“We are a deeply civilised, principled and politically conscious ethnic nationality built on justice, mutual respect and constitutional order. Our political engagements have always been guided by equity and peaceful dialogue,” the stakeholders said.


“Therefore, this press conference is to set the record straight, safeguard our party and senatorial district and to unequivocally reject any attempt to characterize Oro people as ingrates because someone has been given a false hope.”


The PDP stakeholders further argued that zoning should be regarded as a sacred structural framework designed to ensure that no federal constituency is marginalized.


They recalled that Oron federal Constituency was the last occupant of the Eket Senatorial seat through Senator Nelson Effiong before the respected daughter of Oro Nation, Distinguished Senator Dr. Akon Eyakenyi, now Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, and maintained that equity demands that Ikot Abasi should be allowed to complete its cycle.


Responding to questions from journalists, Hon. Okon observed that since Oron Federal Constituency had already completed its two terms of eight years in the Senate, it was only natural for Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency to be allowed to complete its own turn in line with the collective consensus reached by leaders of Akwa Ibom South across party lines. Thereafter ,it will be the turn of Eket federal constituency.


“Let me say this with all sense of humility and responsibility, bypassing the federal constituency whose rightful turn it is to produce the next Senator for our senatorial district breaches intra-party trust, destabilises the senatorial district's power sharing and threatens unity, peace and harmonious co-existence . Let me announce to you that PDP Stakeholders and Members in Oron federal constituency will not be a party to such an arrangement.” he said.
