DEPUTY Leader, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon (Barr) Ime Okon, has challenged youths in the state not to allow themselves to be used for thuggery by any politician, charging them to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after this year's elections.
The lawmaker who represents Ibiono Ibom in the State House of Assembly also called on all and sundry to take their destinies in their hands by mobilising and voting massively for Governor Udom Emmanuel and all PDP candidates in the 2019 polls to sustain peace and development in the State.
Okon made this known, Wednesday, during a PDP Federal Constituency Women Rally in support of the Governor, at the James Ekpo Secretariat, Oko Ita, Ibiono Ibom LGA.
Flanked by his wife, Mrs Victoria Okon, the lawmaker observed, "beyond the Governor's political inclusiveness for the people of Ibiono Ibom, he is a man of peace", adding that the people cannot afford to increase the number of widows in the State, if they do otherwise on March 2 election.
Interacting with newsmen shortly after the event which had in attendance wife of the governor, Mrs Martha Emmanuel and other eminent sons and daughters of the State, Barr Okon hinted that Akwa Ibom, in the past three and half years, has continued to enjoy peace, which has engendered good governance, unprecedented socio-economic growth and security of lives and property – earning the State the enviable status of one of the most peaceful and secure States in the country.
"It is undisputable that one of the greatest achievements of Gov. Udom Emmanuel’s administration in Akwa Ibom that must not be taken for granted is the enduring peace", he noted.
According to the Ibiono Ibom representative, it is mandatory and non negotiatiable for Mr Udom Emmanuel from Eket Senatorial District to remain at the Hilltop Mansion till 2023.
Hear him: "The tradition of second term started when Uyo Senatorial District produced Architect (Obong) Victor Attah as governor for eight years between 1999 and 2007. This was followed when Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District through Chief (Dr) Godswill Akpabio served eight years as governor between 2007 and 2015", adding that, "for Justice and fairness Governor Udom Emmanuel from Eket Senatorial District must be supported by every right thinking Akwa Ibomite to complete his tenure in 2023".
Okon used the occasion to dispel the rumour of his defection to APC saying the information was a lie and desperation to deceive Akwa Ibom people.
He however maintained the perpetrators' motives must have been to kick him out of the umbrella to enjoy its warmth alone.
