Irked by the threat posed by the dreaded Corona Virus, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has urged the Ministry of Health to strengthen its Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Committee in order to prevent the virus from spreading to the State.

The resolution followed a Motion sponsored by the Member representing Etinan State Constituency, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Aniefiok Dennis and ten others at Plenary on Thursday.

It also directed that the Isolation Centre at Ikot Ekpene be made fully functional by the state government while the Ministry of Information and Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission (EARCOM) should aggressively embark on extensive and intensive awareness, sensitisation across the state on the Coronavirus epidemic.

It further urged the Ministry of Transport in conjunction with the Ministry of Health to ensure that Motor Parks and public transport systems are provided with hand sanitizers and other protective equipment.
