Unwana Assam: Attacking Her Excellency With Falsehood on the Social Media Further Proves Your Demented State

By Ayubong Edet

Does "Freedom of the Press" mean that a journalist or something in resemblance of that name can say or write anything he wants - anyhow, anytime, without the faintest pricking of conscience?

This was the first wave of query that surged in on us on stumbling on Unwana Assam's  report, posted recklessly on

Newsline9ja.com and widely syndicated by other credulous social media platforms.

The fabricated report came with a rather curious, amateurish, imaginative and meandering title: "Exposed: A"Ibom First Lady Allegedly Pays Some PDP Chapter Women Leaders 250k For National Convention, Shuns Others... As Aggrieved Chapter Women Leaders Set to Protest"

Nothing but hunger and hopelessness must have inspired Unwana Assam to embark on a suicidal mission of this doomed destination in the fantasy realm of self-destructive imaginations.

It is pertinent to state, first and foremost, that except something urgent was done, with reports such as this, although not altogether strange from Assam's camp, the noble profession of Journalism in Akwa Ibom State would continue to be under threat by incorrigible quacks and its decent practitioners  innocent subjects of perpetual mockery.

In the said panel-beaten report, Unwana Assam tried in futility to experiment with the hypothesis that the Governor's wife, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, paid N250, 000 to some favoured party women and neglected others, because they were blackmailed, and by so doing denied Unwana Assam  some sleep.

Hear him: "Newsline9ja reporter gathered that the (reason why) the governor's wife paid some and abandoned some is not well spelled out, but the feeler said, her reason for not paying the more than 10 chapter women leaders is UNCONNECTED with the blackmails against some women leaders about meeting with some governorship aspirants in the State". (Capitalized word is ours to  accentuate the level of inconsistency).

It is possible that after dumping this report on the thoroughfare social media, Unwana must have congratulated himself for a beautiful attempt at investigative journalism. But he cannot confuse us about which political wing of desperadoes he belongs!

Of course, it was not unexpected that close to or on the eve of the scheduled PDP National Convention, like has been the practiced misgivings of media hirelings prior to and during big events over the years, Unwana Assam, the Akwa Ibom State Life Chairman of Association of Slanderers and Gutter Journalism, would begin to launch premeditated falsehood in conventional and allied media platforms, simply to gratify his desperate and mischievous sponsors or to seek elusive relevance. This has been his trademark.

Besides, a dependable source very close to him but who pleaded strict anonymity has confided in us that Unwana Assam is habitually given to sniffing some spoonfuls of cocaine before he writes anything. "He believes that is where he draws his inspiration from", the source said.

Nonetheless, because of how poorly written, shallow, and self- denigrating

the report is, our first inkling was to ignore it completely and instantly for what it is, having already identified the callous  craftsman behind it. But second thought persuaded otherwise: Something prompt and discreet has to be done because of the highly respected personalities Unwana insolently  mentioned in the fairytale, and also

to evacuate the misleading story and protect the gullible section of the public.

Even then, on remembering that Unwana Assam is pitiably hypertensive, intellectually epileptic, and chronically in shackles of hunger, we had to temper the diction with caution and diplomacy in order to possibly make him appreciate our concerns and wishes for his liberation from dirty deals.

Therefore, choosing not to see our reaction here essentially as a rejoinder or rebuttal, but a free seminar for Unwana on how not to approach some tantalizing media matters, we wish to observe as follows:

(1) What is Unwana Assam saying in essence if the preceded action by his accused is  UNCONNECTED with a blackmail? Again, in his narrow- mindedness, we wish to ask Assam whether the said N250k was given to (each) or (all) the chosen women.

Although we are aware that for years now, Unwana has been in unresolved difficulties with elementary lexis and syntax of the English grammar, we also thought he should by now have begun to be wary of his peculiar strong weaknesses in this regard. That would have deterred him from a dangerous adventurism on a report of this nature.

(2) Unwana made reference to text messages that were  allegedly sent from his accused to the supposed favoured women. For plausibility and verifiability that true journalism demands and expects from well-tutored practitioners, the right thing should have been for him to  reproduce the text in question and context, in authentication of his allegations, or even put up an alibi to that effect.

Unfortunately, there is no how he could have done that because it never bothered him nor did he care a rat about the principle of "right of reply" that is cardinal in the media profession.

(3)It is empty- stomarch quacks like Unwana Assam who, just because he may have been treated to some wraps of soured moi-moi and given a free ride in Keke to meet with his use- and-dump sponsors . Time surely will come in this country when interlopers and charlatans of Unwana Assam's ilk shall have been flushed out from the media community.

(4) Categorically, without any further need for explanations, the fact is that nothing in Unwana's wild assumptions ever took place or shall take place at the behest of the First Lady who neither has statutory authority nor opportunity howsoever to interfere in the mobilization of party personnel to a national convention. It is strictly a party affair.

Therefore, because the ill-advised and misfired report lacks in everything journalistic, we have no option than to advise the reading public to instantly discard it simply as an imaginative short-story attempt that suitably falls within the iron brackets of cock and bull story.

All that the reporter wanted was that cheap proof to his sponsors that he  perhaps is nursing ambition to become a journalist sometime in the future.

Nevertheless, criminal antics such as this by Unwana Assam probably confirms why he is still at the station of life he is presently, living on crumps from the very ones he should be feeding,  lacking in every progressive index of personal growth and corporate relevance, yet not disposed to change.

We therefore lovingly deploy this medium to advise him to change his ways and hope that  he would listen to the benevolent voice of reason to look elsewhere. We suggest he goes to learn vulcanizing  where he may have a future; and voluntarily quit the media community where he presently feels and claims he belongs.

We know 2023 politics has since begun with the usuals. We know the various camps of character assassinators. But we wish Unwana Assam well!
