Akwa Ibom Assembly Advocates Vocational, Entrepreneurial Learning In Schools

Moved by the need to update learning in secondary schools with vocational education, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has tasked the Ministry of Education to without delay incorporate practical vocational and entrepreneurial skills into the secondary school curriculum starting from JSS1 through SS3 The House rising from a motion brought before it today by the member representing Nsit Ibom State Constituency, Hon. Otobong Bob Brings Succour To Nsit Ubium As 70 Surgeries Done, 930 Ailments Treated, 230 Eyeglasses Given

Otobong Bob has given Succour to his constituents through a medical outreach where no fewer than 70 successful surgeries(adults and children) have been done and 930 residents with different ailments have been treated. The event which is held at the Primary Healthcare Center, Ikot Edibon, Nsit Ubium has been running for three days to end today Saturday also had over 280 persons receiving prescription eyeglasses. Making remarks at the event, the s ponsor, Rt. Hon. Bob stated that his desire was to provide a lasting gift to the lives of his constituents beyond the regular celebrations of Valentineā€™s Day. ā€œI wanted to give my people a gift that truly matters which is good health.   It was a Valentineā€™s gift like no other for the people of Nsit Ubium as the lawmaker representing the constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Otobong Effiong Bob, flagged off a three-day free medical and surgical outreach at the Primary Health Centre, Ikot Edibon. Thursday, the opening day of the exercise saw a massive turnout, with thousands of residents trooping to the venue, seeking medical attention for various ailments. The atmosphere was akin to a marketplace, as medical professionals worked tirelessly to attend to patients. Speaking to newsmen, Dr. Samuel Ekpo from the State Ministry of Health disclosed that over 900 outpatients had been treated, while 620 persons were set to receive free prescription glasses. Rising from a Motion by the Member representing Uyo State Constituency, Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo, during Plenary yesterday Tuesday, he informed the House that "there is no single street light from Stadium Road, to Nung Oku Roundabout, to Idoro Road, resulting from the vandalisation or expiration of solar batteries that were used in powering the street lights, when it was commissioned by the administration of former Governor Godswill Akpabio." Aniekeme Uwah Bags International Appointment

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has appointed Dr Aniekeme Aniefiok Uwah as her first ever Senior Country Representative for the Federal Democratic of Ethiopia. Prior to his recent appointment, Dr. Uwah, who is a distinguished Medical Doctor and Epidemiologist with an extensive international and local experience had served as a National Coordinator for Ethiopia of the Saving Lives and Livelihoods (SLL) program, a flagship initiative of the Africa Centres for Disease Control (Africa CDC). Eunice Thomas joins WEOG Advisory Board

  The Women in Energy, Oil and Gas, WEOG, has nominated a Non Executive Director on the Board of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, Dr Eunice Thomas into its Advisory Board.  Dr. Thomas, a former commissioner in Akwa Ibom served from 2007 to 2013 in the Ministries of Women Affairs and Education respectively.
