From Vision to Reality: Otobong Bob’s Security Trust Fund Law Comes Alive

Two days ago, Akwa Ibom State Government officially launched it's Security Trust Fund (STF). This fund will support the government’s investments in security but with a private-sector management model. According to His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, the Security Trust Fund is a vehicle to bring all hands on deck to ensure we continue to live in a safe and secure environment so that Akwa Ibom people and inhabitants may pursue their legitimate undertakings.

The making of this all important initiative will be incomplete without credit to Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob, the majority leader of the 8th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Bob conceived the idea of Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund law at the young age of 27 as a first timer and youngest lawmaker in the State Assembly in 2019. The bill went through the legislative process and was first Passed into law by the 7th Assembly on 12th August 2021.

Although, this bill did not receive an executive assent by the previous administration, the undeterred Nsit Ubium lawmaker re-commited this bill on his return to the 8th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on swiftly noticing the ARISE AGENDA policy trust of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno's administration in security management in order to complement government efforts and provide funding to the state security needs and the established Ibom Community Watch.

The Akwa Ibom Security Trust Fund bill which was passed into law on the 22nd September 2023 and received executive assent by Pastor Umo Eno on the 13th of December 2023 making it the only private member bill of the 8th Assembly to receive an executive assent.
