Education Bedrock Of Society - AKHA Speaker....Doles Out Scholarship To Indigent Students



Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aniekan Bassey, during the 2019 commemoration of Nigeria’s Independence in Uruan Local Government Council, awarded and added two more students of the area to his Scholarship Scheme, which has run into millions of naira.

According to Rt. Hon. Bassey, the Scholarship Scheme is designed to encourage the educational pursuits of indigent students and those with financial challenges within and outside Uruan origin from secondary to university level.

While presenting the scholarship to the new recipients, the Speaker appealed “all recipients of the Scholarship Scheme to make good use of the opportunity to create a better future for themselves. Education, we all know, is the bedrock of any society and the hope of Uruan, Akwa Ibom and Nigeria lies in the education of its youths.”

Rt. Hon. Bassey, who represents Uruan State Constituency and who has been giving out financial support to students through the Scholarship Scheme unannounced for so many years now, also seized the Independence Day celebration to give cash prizes to students and pupils that performed during the event.

Winners from the Secondary School level included Assumption Girls’ Juniorate (Ndon Ebom), A.M.E Zion Secondary School (Ndon Ebom), and Idagha Secondary School (Nung Oku Uruan).
The Primary and Nursery School level included St Jerome’s School (Nung Ikono Ufok), Holy Trinity School (Mbiakong), Government School (Ikot Akan), Migrant Farmers’ Primary School (Esuk Inwang), Social Nursery/Primary School (Idu Uruan), Success International Nursery/Primary School (Ikot Otoinyene) and Uduakabasi Nursery/Primary School (Ituk Mbang)


The Event was attended by Chairman of Uruan Local Government Council, Mr. Henry Isaiah Udofia, Councillors and Supervisors as well as the Paramount Ruler and members of the Traditional Ruler’s Council

Financial Impropriety, Abuse Of Power: AKHA Receives Petition Against Ikono Chairman

  The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today during Plenary received a petition against the Council Chairman of Ikono, Hon. Otobong Essien, where the Councillors have accused her of misconduct in the discharge of her official duties.
