Aniekan Bassey Emerges Uruan Political Leader




The political class, ward leaders and key stakeholders of Uruan Local Government Area have selected and subsequently confirmed Senator-Elect for Uyo Senatorial District seat, Rt. Hon Aniekan Bassey, as the new Political Leader of the URUAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA. 


This was on the heels of a motion moved by Pst Favour Okokon Ekpenyong and seconded by Mr. Emmanuel Atakpo. The motion was unanimously adopted by  Uruan Political Stakeholders ,during a celebration visit to the Senator-Elect on Monday at his Osongoma residence, Uyo.


This unanimous decision  was reached in recognition that Rt.Hon. Aniekan Bassey is the highest political office holder in Uruan Local Government Area, Zonal  Leaders, Ward Leaders and all stakeholders deemed it fit to  select the Senator-Elect, Rt. Hon Aniekan Bassey, as the Political Leader." 


The new Political Leader, who is also the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, is deputized by Engr JB Effiong, who is also the Zonal Leader of Central Uruan.


The stakeholders spoke in appreciation of the personality of the Speaker and his victory at the polls, noting that  we are proud to have him as the first to be elected a senator from Uruan extraction.


They urged the Speaker to remain the true son of Uruan  Inyang Atakpo as he has always been and a charged to make Uruan and Uyo Senatorial District more prouder when he is sworn in as Distinguished Senator in a couple of days.

In his response, Mr  Speaker thanked stakeholders of Uruan politics for the honour done him.He said  he will not disappoint the confidence repose on him.

Iniobong Ekpenyong; His  Vice ; Evang Uduak Udoenang; a former Chairman of Council, Dr. Eventus Edem PhD, Chapter Chairman of Uruan, Hon Sebastian Nkanga; Dean of Ward Leader, Obong Henry Okokon Obot, Chief Bassey Tom; Leader of Uruan Legislative Council, Hon Sunday Bassey; Ward Leaders and other stakeholders.

AKIRS secures N1.2b judgement against Ardent Energy Services LTD ....warns against tax evasion

  The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) has secured a landmark judgement against Ardent Energy Services Ltd, an oil servicing company operating in Akwa Ibom State. In a judgement delivered on July 3, 2025 at the Revenue Court of Akwa Ibom State, Uyo, by the Presiding Revenue Judge, Maureen-Idongesit M. Udoka, the court ordered the defendant to pay to the Akwa Ibom State Government, the sum of N1.2bilion, including penalty and interest on the principal sum.  The judgement was in consequence to Suit No. Rue/77C/2022, filed by AKIRS. With this judgement, which is a major milestone in AKIRS tax compliance drive, the agency warns taxpayers to willingly comply to their civic obligations of always paying their taxes as and when due as there was no hiding place for defaulters.
