The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, Senator Aniekan Bassey, has been commended for his passion and commitment to entrepreneurial development in Akwa Ibom State.
The commendation was handed down on Wednesday by beneficiaries of his empowerment scheme during the June 2023 ‘Entrepreneurs Meet and Greet’ Session, held at the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District Campaign Secretariat, Uyo.
Speaking on behalf other beneficiaries during the event, Mr. Nsidibe Udofa, a petty trader from Etim Ekpo, particularly appreciated Senator Bassey for his transparency and for sustaining the programme over the years.
“I want to thank the Distinguished Senator for his commitment to business development. I am not from Uruan but Etim Ekpo and a beneficiary of the scheme. I thank Senator Aniekan Bassey for extending this benevolence to the entire state. I thank him and the coordinators of this programme for their passion, transparency and commitment to the growth of young entrepreneurs in Akwa Ibom State. On behalf of all the beneficiaries, I promise that we will use the money judiciously,” he said.
Earlier at the event, Senator Bassey said the empowerment scheme, powered by the RHAB-YESS Foundation, remains committed to nurturing young entrepreneurs to financial greatness, self-sustainability and self-reliance.
With his elevation to the National Assembly, Senator Bassey, represented by Mr. Charles Iwatt, who disclosed that the programme has been further repositioned for bigger and better results, urged the beneficiaries to invest their business grants wisely.
“This programme is basically to encourage young people who have chosen not to be idle. No matter how small your business is, there is no how you'll go begging. So we decided that we must support those who chose not to beg. The money we have given you today is to grow your business, not to buy drinks or celebrate birthdays. If you invest the little we have given you, I am sure it will grow,” the Senator admonished.
Similarly, the Manager of RHAB-YESS, Mr. Darlington Udobong, maintained that the scheme will continue to discover, mentor and support young entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams.
Mr. Udobong congratulated the winners, who he explained were drawn from different parts of the state, after discreet selection processes and rigorous online contests.
