The Member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon, has commended Governor Umo Eno over the commencement of construction work on the Ukpakon-Okpoto-Ikpanya Road.

The road, which links several rural communities in Ibiono Ibom and Ini Local Government Areas, had remained in a deplorable state for decades, making movement difficult and cutting residents off from all activities. Its construction by the Akwa Ibom State Government has been described by the lawmaker as a life-changing intervention for the people.

Reacting to the development, Hon. Okon, who is the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs, said the project is a direct reflection of Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to rural development as enshrined in the ARISE Agenda.

“I want to thank our leader, His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, Ph.D, for the genuine love he has shown to our people. Communities like Ikpanya and Okpoto had waited endlessly for this road. Today, their hope has been rekindled. This project is a major relief, and a sign of better days ahead,” he said in a statement.

The Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria further noted that the road, when completed, will improve rural mobility and enhance agricultural productivity and trade across Ibiono Ibom, Ini, and neighbouring communities in the South East region that share boundaries with Akwa Ibom.

He also applauded the indigenous contractor handling the project, Hensek Integrated Services, describing the company as capable and committed to quality delivery. Obong Okon expressed confidence that the firm would deliver a durable road that would serve as an economic lifeline for farmers and traders moving goods from the hinterlands to urban markets.

The federal lawmaker urged his constituents to cooperate fully with the contractors and ensure the safety of workers and equipment throughout the project duration.

He added that the people of Itu/Ibiono Ibom will remain grateful to the Governor and will show appreciation come 2027 by supporting his re-election and other APC candidates.
