Unjust Job Termination: AKHA Orders Ibom Hotel To Reinstate Norah Umoh

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has ordered the management of Ibom Resort and Hotels Limited to reinstate Norah Edet Ukoh and ensure that she receives adequate financial compensation for her wrongful termination.

The Legislature also directed the Committee on Culture and Tourism to urgently conduct an oversight review to determine whether the recommendations of the Joint Committees have been implemented.

Additionally, the Committee is to investigate the lapses in the hotel's administration that were uncovered during the investigation.

The House gave the directive during the plenary session on Thursday, July 10, 2025, following a report presented by Hon. Uwem Imo-Ita, the Chairman of the Joint House Committees on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights, Public Petitions and Special Projects, Monitoring, and Implementation.

Imo-Ita stated that the termination of Norah Ukoh's services was considered unfair due to a lack of due process, adding that the committees found that Norah Ukoh, who was victimized, was on the approved leave when the disciplinary panel convened, and she was not given the opportunity to appear before it.

The Chairman stated that this unfair process violated the principles of fair hearing and natural justice. He also revealed that the hotel management failed to inform the Managing Director that the staff member was on approved leave, which created a significant gap in information and oversight that contributed to the mishandling of the disciplinary process.

Recall that the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Thursday, 3rd July, 2025 received a petition captioned "SOS: An Urgent Need to Intervene on Wrongful Termination of Employment of Norah Edet Ukoh by the Managing Director, Ibom Resort and Hotels Limited".
