REP MARTINS ESIN: FULFILLING CAMPAIGN PROMISES TO CONSTITUENTS WITH MASSIVE IMPACT

By Edet Okpo

With the 10th National Assembly formally inaugurated on June 13, 2023, Rep Martins Esin broke record when, just within 75 days in office as a National Assembly Lawmaker, representing the good people Of  Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urueffong Oruko federal Constituency, he broke the record  with the launch of his first capacity-building programme. That was the first green light to what was to come to the People Of Oro Nation.

The multifaceted empowerment package targeted 160 beneficiaries directly, besides collateral effects that were bound to follow. That was later followed by the  launch of 100 Million Naira Oro Youth Enterprise Scheme (OYES). That, again, was designed to rejuvenate 300 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), with short and long-term objectives of stimulating economic growth and development of the Federal Constituency; creating avenues for self-reliance especially amongst the youths; giving hope to the generality of constituents, and strengthening their faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.

It was nothing surprising though to those who already knew the celebrated lawmaker before the election that gave him the mandate and his first impact in the National Assembly that distinguished him as a lawmaker to watch. Perhaps the first official proof and show of appreciation by Members and leadership of the House of Representatives was his rare appointment as Chairman,  House Of Representatives Committee on Youth Development. This was said to be a privilege largely reserved for ranking Members. But as long as  Rep Martins Esin  was concerned, it didn’t matter. Status quo had to be altered for the good reason.

The position of the leadership was further vindicated before long when Rep Martins Esin began to showcase his pragmatic resourcefulness, intellectual pedigree, Political sagacity and mastery of legislative jurisprudence in connection with motions he moved, interventions he spearheaded, and people-focused bills he sponsored or co-sponsored. That was in addition to equal commendable commitments  to the other two legs of his mandate - oversight and representation.

By virtue of  positive contributions that enhance the corporate objectives of the National Assembly, on and off the floor, Rep. Martins Esin is today respected by all as one of the most vibrant members whose robust legislative acumen and sound contributions justifiably always counts and makes the workload of the 10th  Assembly ( House Of Representatives) lighter.

In this respect in particular, available record obtained from the Order Paper indicates that, the outstanding parliamentarian has sponsored the National Housing Fund (Establishment) Bill; the National Service Corps Act (Amendment) Bill; the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre Act (Establishment) Bill; and a Bill to establish the Federal University of Aeronautics in Urueffong/Oruko Local Government Areas.

These are populist bills that endeared Nigerians who are keen followers of his lofty strides as well as constituents who have shown their appreciation through various quality awards. The Lawmaker has also motions, including addressing the gully erosion in Ekeya Okobo and Iquita Oro Communities. He is also credited with interventions such as construction of Mary Harney Road, Umoh Utok Street, Calabar Street and Calabar Lane in Oron Urban - totaling 1.5 kms.

That’s not all. He has also donated laptops to 43 students and lecturers and provided equipment to traditional rulers’ palaces in the five local government areas. Rep Martin Esin in infrastructure has also been massive, bringing succor to communities long isolated from neighbours and bringing  a new lease of life to constituents across demography, gender and geography. One noticeable thing in him doing all these have  been the fairness and equity in this distribution of dividends of democracy.

He is also the inspiration and catalyst for the Oro Students Engagement and Education Development Scheme (OSEEDS); empowerment of different categories of youths and women on vocations and entrepreneurship undertakings; solar installations; and provision of startup kits and appliances for confectionery, purchase Of exotic Cars to Constituents,  provision Of Security vehicles to boost internal Security in Oron urban, Scholarship and grants to indigent Students, facilitation Of federal employment for  some Of his Constituents, regular interface with Constituents, among others. .  Today, the Annual Unity Football Tournament in the federal constituency is at the benevolence of this astute, result- oriented and People- centric lawmaker.

At various fora, Rep Esin never hides his intentions to do more. Speaking recently through His Media and legislative Aide, John Ntekim  at A- 3 Day Media Symposium On Communication Dynamics and  Corporate Governance in Akwa Ibom State,  organized by the Association of  Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District Media Professionals, where he was honored with an Outstanding Representation and Human Empowerment Award, he said: “My plan for the People Of Oro Nation is to give them quality and effective representation and give them a huge sense Of belonging in governance. Right from the time I made up my mind to contest for Oron/ Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/ Urueoffong Oruko federal Constituency Seat in  the 2023 National Assembly, I had a prepared  blueprint  packaged  to  change the narratives of representation in the federal Constituency. A package to give my people a sense of belonging, impact lives and transform the socio- Political landscape meaningfully and leave tall legacies that history shall remember me for. That’s my mindset. Be assured that more are coming”.

That was no exaggeration. From the very beginning  and during the electioneering campaigns, Rep Martins Esin has left no constituent in doubt about the reason for his desire and intention to go to the National Assembly, the Green Chambers. That populist expectation was generously expressed and translated into action in the turn out of the electorate during election and the expected result that was an eloquent confirmation of the people’s goodwill and solidarity.

That was because Rep Esin didn’t come into the race with two faces but with the same face people of Oro Nation and beyond had already known him. In other words, he already had built tall legacies of personal integrity, competence, populism and capacity in  quality service delivery at his previous private and public service engagements. So, it was obvious to everyone that what he was asking for was a bigger platform for him to bring full potentials into the discourse of representations.

The good news is that there are more two years for Rep Martins Esin to take his stellar performance to the very height of constituents’ expectations.  Nobody is doubting his capacity or the possibility.
