Ime Okon Rolls Out First Batch of Long-Term Skill Training for 20 Constituents…Pays Fees in Cash, Sets Up Performance MonitoringP

 



In a direct push to tackle youth unemployment through practical empowerment, the Member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon, has paid the training fees in cash for 20 youths from Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area to undergo long-term skill acquisition programmes.






The beneficiaries received the support on Wednesday, February 5, 2026, at the Village Hall, Ikot Usen, Ibiono Ibom LGA, marking the first batch of a constituency-wide skill development initiative designed to equip youths with sustainable, income-generating skills.


The skills covered include Auxiliary Nursing, Fashion Designing, Hair Making and Dressing, Patent Medicine Practice, Shoe Making, Hair Styling and Make-up, Carpentry and Joinery, Truck Driving, Plumbing, Automobile Mechanics, Tailoring, Furniture Making, Barbing, as well as trading support for a widow.


Presenting the cash support on behalf of the federal lawmaker, the Chairman of the Selection Committee, Mr. Bassey Okon, said the beneficiaries were selected after a careful screening process from a pool of applications, stressing that the programme was structured for seriousness and long-term impact.


He explained that the training programmes, which span between two and three years depending on the trade, were deliberately chosen to ensure mastery, professionalism and self-reliance. 


He added that the Selection Committee would closely monitor the progress and commitment of each beneficiary, noting that those who show dedication and excellence will receive further assistance to strengthen their businesses upon completion.According to him, the initiative reflects Rep. Ime Okon’s sustained commitment to human capital development assuring that other communities across the Federal Constituency would be captured in subsequent phases.


He urged the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity, warning against complacency and encouraging them to treat the support as seed capital for long-term success.

In a related development the member also presented a business grant to one Anietie Etuk, a physically challenged youth to enable him improve upon his ongoing barbing and styling business. 

Rep. Ime Okon also encouraged the youths to remain engaged in the democratic process, urging them to support the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno and the ARISE Agenda, while taking advantage of ongoing APC and INEC registration exercises.


Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Anietie Etuk, thanked the federal lawmaker for the timely intervention, assuring that the beneficiaries would justify the confidence reposed in them.


Youth Leader,Etubom  Essien Okokon, also commended Rep. Okon for fulfilling his promise, describing the programme as a practical response to youth unemployment and a boost to grassroots development.


Meanwhile, the skill acquisition scheme forms part of a broader empowerment framework being implemented by Rt. Hon. Ime Bassey Okon across Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency to promote sustainable livelihoods and economic inclusion in line with the ARISE Agenda.
