The Managing Director of the South South Development Commission (SSDC), Ms. Usoro Akpabio, has emerged as a central figure in the evolving political strategy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State following her engagement with the President of the Senate, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio, over the adoption of the ARISE With Renewed Hope Initiative for the 2027 general elections.
Ms. Akpabio was among leaders of the Initiative who visited the Senate President at his official residence in Abuja, where he was decorated as Grand Patron and formally endorsed the platform as the APC’s recognised structure for coordination, mobilisation, and electoral planning in Akwa Ibom.
The Initiative is positioned to drive support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno, and Senator Godswill Akpabio, with an emphasis on unity and disciplined grassroots engagement ahead of 2027.
During the meeting, Senator Akpabio highlighted Ms. Akpabio’s expanding national role within the party, citing her appointment to the 2026 APC National Convention Coordinating Committee as evidence of growing confidence in her leadership capacity.
According to the Senate President, her role is expected to strengthen institutional linkages between Akwa Ibom State, the South South region, and the APC’s national organs, particularly in areas of coordination, communication, and political organisation.
He said her role would involve close collaboration with the APC national leadership and Governor Umo Eno, particularly in areas of strategic coordination, official correspondence, and convention-related responsibilities, describing her position as critical to strengthening synergy between Akwa Ibom State and the party’s national organs.
According to him, the adoption of the ARISE With Renewed Hope Initiative provides a unified framework to streamline mobilisation efforts, reduce internal fragmentation, and position the party for electoral success in 2027.
Governor Umo Eno, in his remarks, described the Initiative as a product of consensus-building among APC stakeholders in the state, noting that unity and disciplined coordination would be decisive factors in the party’s future electoral fortunes.
He acknowledged the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio and the organisational input of Ms. Usoro Akpabio, saying the platform reflects a collective resolve to move the party forward under a single, inclusive structure.
Earlier, President-General of the Initiative, Mr. Uwem Okoko, said the visit was part of efforts to formally integrate the group into the APC’s broader political architecture, following consultations with key leaders in the state.
He said the Initiative was established to mobilise grassroots support, coordinate stakeholder engagement, and ensure a coherent campaign structure for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Okoko expressed confidence that, with the combined leadership of the Senate President, Governor Umo Eno, and the strategic coordination role being played by the SSDC Managing Director, Akwa Ibom State would remain firmly aligned with the APC’s national leadership and electoral objectives.
