Attack On Onna Councillors: Council Boss Denies Involvement

By Imoh Etukukoh.

Following the social media report making the rounds that, the Onna Council Chairman, Hon Imoh Attat, is at loggerhead with the legislative council in Onna, using cult boys to attack legislators, the council boss, Hon. Imoh Attat has faulted the report, saying the executive and the legislative arms in Onna LGA are enjoying robust working relationship since the inception of the administration.

Speaking with this reporter, yesterday Hon. Attat said that he is not aware of any problem between the executive and the legislature in the council, adding that, at the moment he was in Uyo on official engagement.

He stated that, the councillors had been misinformed by someone he is yet to know and identify alleging that, he collected N17 million instead of N8 million as allocation accrued to the local government for the month of March, and has also collected several entitlements on behalf the councillors without remitting same.

Attat said further that Councilors having been misinformed surreptitiously hatched plots of his impeachment after he was invited to balance information rightly as it was.

He stated that the attack on some Councilors is also a concoction by those orchestrating the peddled smear campaign of his pilfering funds due to the legislators, who are also in a coup to oust him from office by all means.

"How can one send thugs to people he has enjoyed a robust relationship with?.

"I believe this action is one of those actions conscripted by the agents of our LGA, who wants to paint a picture that is not real"

He added that the councilors just like himself, have the right to any information about the local government, urging the councillors to always verify information before consuming it.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one of the councilors in the legislative council confirmed the submissions of the chairman.

He stated that there has been serious misinformation in  the legislative  council  against the Chairman.

He stated further that he doesn't know what would have warranted thugs to invade the council beating councilors, who scampered for their lives.

He blamed the misinformation to be the reason for segregation between the legislature and the executive.

According to him, the Chairman has maintained an all-inclusive leadership in the local government, emphasising that he doubts the allegation of the Chairman's sponsorship of the thugs.

This reporter gathered from other sources that the problem is unconnected to councilors being fed with lies that the Chairman is not tendering correct allocations to the legislature.

It is of this believe that the councilors demanded for better impress, and security votes of which the Chairman lacks the powers to make increments.

When this reporter wanted to get in touch with the  the Leader of the legislative council to get his own side of the story, through a telephone call, the number was switched off.
