Udom's Strides In Development, Sustained Peace, Reasons His Re-Election - Ime Okon


The member representing Ibiono Ibom state constituency in the Akwa Ibom state house of Assembly, who is also the deputy leader of the House and chairman House committee on information, Rt. Hon. Ime Okon attributes the victory of Governor Udom Emmanuel in the just concluded election to God's grace and to his first term performance as Governor.  According to him,the Governor  has performed creditably well.

The lawmaker said this, while speaking on a live television programme on the Akwa Ibom broadcasting corporation ( AKBC) ," CROSSHAIRS  with Tom Monday " in uyo ,Tuesday 9th,2019. He maintained that the people of Ibiono Ibom local government and the entire state came out to vote massively for the Governor to return for a second term,because he is naturally loved by the people and his  industrialization agenda appeals to them.

" The people voted for the Governor to return for a second term, because they were satisfied with his performance and also because the Governor is a man who loves peace and means well for the people of the state "
He said the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is very supportive of the Governor's bold initiative at industrialising the State including aviation development and that is why adequate appropriation is made in the 2019 appropriation law to facilitate the process.

Rt Hon Okon noted that the facilities and equipment in AKBC begs for urgent attention. Beyond the absence of a corporate office to accommodate both services the obsolete equipment needs urgent replacement to enable the agency to deliver on its responsibilities to government and the people. He was optimistic that the Governor is a listening Governor and that once funds are available, those concerns will be addressed having been provided for in the 2019 Appropriation law.

On his stewardship as the member representing Ibiono Ibom state constituency, the lawmaker noted that ,his election into the House of Assembly was a rare privilege, and that he took upon himself to discharge his duties well,so as to leave a legacy that will speak for him. He further stated that,he decided to pay more attention to education, by first initiating the " Ime Okon Quiz  competition" where pupils and students drawn from public and private schools within the state constituency actively participated. Handsome prizes were donated to the winners while students in tertiary institutions from Ibiono Ibom were always paid bursary on the occasion. Okon hinted that the one he carried out last year was the 7th ,with over two million naira paid to students as bursary.

He stated further that as the representative of Ibiono Ibom people, he has given start up capitals to so many people for business as well as sponsoring sons and daughters to be trained in various skills. He said through his constituency projects many communities have benefited from pipe borne water, renovation of schools and civic centres. He said he had moved a motion for the creation of more clans in Ibiono Ibom as well as the resuscitation of Government Technical College,  Ikot Ada Idem.

He called on the incoming 7th Assembly and the people of the state to continue to support the Governor and give him the necessary backing to enable him to succeed in his completion agenda for the state to the benefit of the people.
