Mbiaso Ward 3 in Nsit Ibom Local Government of Akwa Ibom on Sunday, beat the defending Champions, Etinan Urban Ward 1, 5 – 4 to win a coveted trophy in the just concluded second edition of INISO Unity Cup tournament 2019 at Etinan Township Stadium.
Mbiaso Ward 3 in Nsit Ibom Local Government of Akwa Ibom on Sunday, beat the defending Champions, Etinan Urban Ward 1, 5 – 4 to win a coveted trophy in the just concluded second edition of INISO Unity Cup tournament 2019 at Etinan Township Stadium.
Mbiaso won at penalty shootout, after both teams played goalless draw in the first full 90 minutes of the game.
The defending Champions, Etinan Urban Ward 1 suffered defeat in the competition, when Mbiaso goalkeeper, Usenobong Linus made a surprise save of an electrifying kick by the opponent’s striker in the 7 minutes of extra time, while his team mates scored all five penalties that shot Mbiaso team to limelight as champions of this year’s tournament which began on Sunday March 31, 2019.
The football tournament which debuted in 2018 and sponsored by African-American philanthropist and President, INISO Foundation, Mr Ubong Usen was aimed at discovering talents to feed both local, national and international football leagues.
Usen, while presenting the trophy to Mbiaso Ward 3 team as reigning Champions thanked the teams for participation assuring that, 2020 edition would be much bigger and better.
He further stressed that, the foundation apart from hosting the football event, has a lot in store for the youth of Etinan Federal Constituency.
He noted that as a platform, youth would be trained on self-discipline, healthy life style, time management, dedication, team/hard work.
Also speaking, the President-General, Ibom All Stars Confederation, Hon. Imo Atat who performed the kick-off to declare the march opened, commended the organizers for a job well done and promised to partner the NGO to extend the tournament to benefit Onna youth.
Prizes were given to the participating teams as Champions (Mbiaso), got N150, 000 and a trophy, second runners-up (Etinan Urban 1) N100, 000 and third place (Southern Iman Ward 3) got N50, 000 respectively.
Elijah Eboh from (Etinan Urban team) won Most Valuable Player award, Usenobong Linus (Mbiaso) Best Goalkeeper, Enamidem Okon Idem (Southern Iman 3) Best Coach, Mfon Bassey (Etinan Urban) scored 4 goals in the tournament to clinch (Highest Goals Scorer) recognition, while Northern Iman 2 won the (Best Behave team).
