Govt Restates Support, Partnership With Cooperatives...as Presidents Of Cooperative Societies Parley SSA




The Akwa Ibom State Government has promised increased support and technical assistance to Coorporative Societies in the state. The Senior Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Microfinance and Enterprise Development, Mr. Ime Uwah made the commitment today, while granting audience to Local Government Chapter Presidents of the Dakkada Multipurpose Coorporative Society in his office.

Uwah lauded the Chapter Presidents and indeed the entire membership of the cooperative societies for their support and commitment to the reelection of the Governor, recalling that the Cooperative Society was one of the first Organisations to openly endorse Governor Udom Emmanuel for a second term in Office at her 2017 annal general meeting which hekd in August. He however reminded the Chapter Presidents that the Dakkada Multipurpose Coorporative Society is not a political formation but a business entity whose major agenda is profit making and betterment of the lives of her members. He urged the cooperative to show commitment in cooperative activities, membership support and facilities repayment so as to attract increased government support and recognition.

Earlier, the President of the Dakkada Multipurpose Cooporative society, and Mkpat Enin Chapter President, Mrs. Jane Xavier Ekwere said the Chapter Presidents were in the Directorate on a courtesy and solidarity visit to the SSA to register their support for his new office. Ekwere thanked the Udom Emmanuel administration for the Dakkada Multipurpose Coorporative Society initiative which she said had taken the impact of governance to the hinterlands.

Other Chapter Presidents who spoke with this correspondent were full of praises to the Governor for Uwah's appointment, describing it as a square peg in a square hole. They expressed optimism that with Uwah in charge of Micro-finance and Enterprise Development in the state, better days are indeed here for Cooperative Societies in Akwa Ibom State.

Also present at the Parley were the Executive Secretary, Akwa Ibom Microcredit scheme, Mr. Monday John, Mr. Donald Bassey, Liason Officer, Dakkada Multipurpose Coorporative Society, Mr. Brian Xavier Ekwere among others.
