Condolence: AKHA Speaker Extols Nsom Of Uruan's Virtues, Says A Loss To Akwa Ibom, Nigeria



Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, on Sunday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Paramount Ruler and Nsom of Uruan, Edidem Effiong Bassey Ekanem.

The Speaker condoled with the family and the people of Uruan Local Government Area on the loss of their Patriarch and custodian of its heritage and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.

Rt. Hon. Bassey, who made this known when he visited the deceased`s Ituk Mbang home in the company of his aides and friends, said “the late Monarch will be remembered for his good works and contributions to the promotion of peace and development of Uruan and Akwa Ibom State in general.”

He further described the late Edidem Ekanem as a thoroughbred professional whose contributions to infrastructural development within and outside the shores of Akwa Ibom State are unparalleled, maintaining that his death was not only a loss to the engineering profession, the people of Uruan and Akwa Ibom State, but also a personal loss to him.

The Speaker urged members of the family to uphold the good virtues that late Edidem Ekanem was known for and the legacies that he has left behind.

Speaking on behalf of the deceased family, Chief Kingsley Ekanem, thanked the Speaker for his support and for identifying with them at their moment of grief.
He lauded the Speaker, whose election and subsequent emergence, according to him, has brought peace, stability and development to the area.

AKIRS secures N1.2b judgement against Ardent Energy Services LTD ....warns against tax evasion

  The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) has secured a landmark judgement against Ardent Energy Services Ltd, an oil servicing company operating in Akwa Ibom State. In a judgement delivered on July 3, 2025 at the Revenue Court of Akwa Ibom State, Uyo, by the Presiding Revenue Judge, Maureen-Idongesit M. Udoka, the court ordered the defendant to pay to the Akwa Ibom State Government, the sum of N1.2bilion, including penalty and interest on the principal sum.  The judgement was in consequence to Suit No. Rue/77C/2022, filed by AKIRS. With this judgement, which is a major milestone in AKIRS tax compliance drive, the agency warns taxpayers to willingly comply to their civic obligations of always paying their taxes as and when due as there was no hiding place for defaulters.
