Tolerance, Love Panacea To Church, Society Growth - AKHA Speaker



The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has identified tolerance and love for one another, as requisite ingredients that will foster unity and growth in the church and society.

The Speaker who worshipped at Christ The King Cathedral, Uyo, for the Dedication of the remodeled church building, said that it is only in the atmosphere of peace, love and understanding for each other, that the society will be liberated from hate, crime and other societal vices.

The Lawmaker while lauding the church administrators and parishioners for their sacrifices which resulted in the timely completion of the church remodeling project, also admonished faithfuls on selfless service and sincerity in their daily endeavour.

Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey who described himself as a devotee of the Catholic faith, revealed that his christian life began from the Catholic fold and pledged to continually support the church in other projects.

While expressing happiness over the  growth of the church, the Speaker called on leaders and members of the church to continually uphold the tenets of the Catholic faith which he said is based on truth.

Earlier in his homily, the Catholic Bishop of Uyo, His Lordship, Most Rev. (Dr.) John Ayah, called on Christians to cultivate the act of kindness and forgiveness, saying God will grant long life as a reward to those who serve Him diligently.

AKIRS secures N1.2b judgement against Ardent Energy Services LTD ....warns against tax evasion

  The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) has secured a landmark judgement against Ardent Energy Services Ltd, an oil servicing company operating in Akwa Ibom State. In a judgement delivered on July 3, 2025 at the Revenue Court of Akwa Ibom State, Uyo, by the Presiding Revenue Judge, Maureen-Idongesit M. Udoka, the court ordered the defendant to pay to the Akwa Ibom State Government, the sum of N1.2bilion, including penalty and interest on the principal sum.  The judgement was in consequence to Suit No. Rue/77C/2022, filed by AKIRS. With this judgement, which is a major milestone in AKIRS tax compliance drive, the agency warns taxpayers to willingly comply to their civic obligations of always paying their taxes as and when due as there was no hiding place for defaulters.
