Udom's Victory At Supreme Court, Confirmation Of PDP's Triumph - AKHA Speaker



Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, on Wednesday described the Supreme Court affirmation of the victory of Governor Udom Emmanuel as a clear confirmation of the victory of the Peoplesā€™ Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2019 Governorship Elections in the state.

Rt. Hon. Bassey, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mr. Darlington Udobong, said ā€œthe Supreme Court verdict has finally put paid to the failed rumours propagated by the opposition in the state. It has also put the final legal seal on the victory of Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and our dear party, the PDP.ā€

He congratulated Governor Emmanuel and the leadership of the PDP, saying ā€œthe fact that the verdict came from the Supreme Court is a clear indication that the All Progressive Congress (APC) has no justification to challenge the mandate of the people of Akwa Ibom that was given through a free and fair election. The victory served is a victory deserved. It is deserved because the 2020 Appropriation Bill was also signed into Law today by the State Governor.ā€

According to the statement, the Speaker maintained that the ā€œpeople of Akwa Ibom are satisfied with the performance of Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and the PDP in the state. The people of Akwa Ibom will continue to support the Governor, the party and its candidates.ā€

ā€œWe are grateful to God today because the Court has proved to the APC hat the mandate Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and our dear party is holding is legitimately given to them by the people of Akwa Ibom State. It is indeed a sweet victory and I sincerely congratulate Governor Udom Emmanuel and the entire leadership of the PDP,ā€ he stressed.

AKHA Defers Giving Resolution To Extend Transition Committees..mandates Committee to verify performance of councils

The State governor who communicated his request for the House Resolution dated 6th May 2024 drawing strength from Section 5 sub 2 of the Local Government Administration Law pleaded with the lawmakers to heed to giving the resolution to extend the tenure of Transition Councils as the Commission responsible for conducting elections require an extended time frame.
