SENATE 2023: INEC PRESENTS CERTIFICATE OF RETURN TO ANIEKAN BASSEY

 




The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented certificate of return to the Senator-elect for the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey.


Rt. Hon. Bassey, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and Senator-elect to the 10th National Assembly, was presented with the duly signed Certificate of Return on Tuesday at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.


Speaking with newsmen shortly after the event, Rt. Hon. Bassey thanked the people of Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, the INEC, security agencies and all those who played different roles during the elections, adding that “the election was adjudged as very peaceful in Akwa Ibom State.”


Rt. Hon. Bassey, who won the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after a keenly contested election on February 25, 2023, hinted that the presentation of the Certificate of Return to elected candidates by INEC was in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and “by the event, the Commission has complied with the requirement of law in this regard.”


He polled a total of 98,634 votes to defeat Mr. Emaeyak Ukpong of the All Progressive Congress (APC), 43,204 votes and Barrister Usenobong Akpabio of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), 37,679 votes.


The Senator-elect also appealed to the people of Akwa Ibom to extend the same show of love, support and solidarity given to him to the Gubernatorial Candidate of the PDP, Pastor Umo Eno, and all the State House of Assembly Candidates of the party in the forthcoming elections.


Rt. Hon. Bassey, an alumnus of the University of Uyo, has a B.Sc in Chemistry, a B.Sc in Sociology and Anthropology, two Master Degrees in Social and Cultural Anthropology, and in Development Studies. He is currently pursuing two Doctorate degrees in the same University. He has several requisite Certificates from Harvard Law School, Harvard University Extension School, Emory University, Northern America University and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Academy in Astralia.

AKHA Defers Giving Resolution To Extend Transition Committees..mandates Committee to verify performance of councils
