Board Chairmen Refusing To Handover Treasonable Affront To Lawful Authority - AKHA





Irked by the refusal of some Chairmen of Parastatals to effect handing over even after the directive from the State Governor, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today during Plenary moved to enforce the dissolution of such Boards.

Coming under a Motion on Notice brought to the House by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem, noted that the tenure of all Non-Statutory Boards, Agencies and Committees came to an end on 29th May, 2023, same day with that of the State Executive Council.

Coming under Order III Rule I of the Standing Order of the House, the Lawmaker stated that "His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State becoming aware that some Board Chairmen were yet to handover and vacate their offices directed the immediate dissolution of all Non-Statutory Boards, Agencies and Aware that His Excellency, the Governor directed that the affected Boards, Agencies and Commissions should handover to the most senior civil servant in the office

Rt. Hon. Edidem who represents Itu State Constituency added that the Board Chairmen ignored and disobeyed the directive of the Governor even when they were properly communicated to describing such attitude as unlawful, disobedience, treasonable affront, wrong precedence and capable of embarrassing the lawful authority of the Governor.

He prayed the House to "invite, question and investigate the erring Board Chairmen and Members" and also to "ascertain the extent of damage this flagrant disobedience has caused the State".

The Speaker Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong in his submission refered the matter to the Committee on Judiciary, Justice and Public Petition for indepth study and report back to the House in two weeks.

The House was however adjourned to Thursday 20th July.

AKIRS secures N1.2b judgement against Ardent Energy Services LTD ....warns against tax evasion

  The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) has secured a landmark judgement against Ardent Energy Services Ltd, an oil servicing company operating in Akwa Ibom State. In a judgement delivered on July 3, 2025 at the Revenue Court of Akwa Ibom State, Uyo, by the Presiding Revenue Judge, Maureen-Idongesit M. Udoka, the court ordered the defendant to pay to the Akwa Ibom State Government, the sum of N1.2bilion, including penalty and interest on the principal sum.  The judgement was in consequence to Suit No. Rue/77C/2022, filed by AKIRS. With this judgement, which is a major milestone in AKIRS tax compliance drive, the agency warns taxpayers to willingly comply to their civic obligations of always paying their taxes as and when due as there was no hiding place for defaulters.
