Prince Akpabio Advocates Rotational Ward Empowerment, Briefing



The era when Constituency briefing was held only once a year is over. Henceforth, both Constituency briefing and empowerment programme will hold monthly and on a Ward rotational basis, Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency, Prince Ukpong Akpabio II has declared. 


He announced that the maiden edition of his Ward Empowerment programme for July 2023 will come up on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in Afaha Ward, where the PDP scored the highest number of votes during the Governorship and State House of Assembly election.


Addressing a cross section of Essien Udim Caucus alongside Ward, Chapter and State Party officers at the residence of the Political Leader of Essien Udim, Obong M. A. Afangideh, on Friday, July 28, 2023, the lawmaker noted that the regular interface is aimed at bridging the gap between the representative and constituents.


According to Prince Akpabio, the development is in line with the philosophy of the Arise Agenda which places premium on rural development. He announced a 3.5 CGPA benchmark for all beneficiaries of his scholarship scheme as a way of promoting academic excellence among Essien Udim students.


While thanking God for His mercies and grace that saw him through his campaign, election and subsequent swearing-in, the lawmaker promised to offer his people effective representation. 


"I return to you with a grateful heart, to thank you for the efforts you all put in, the sacrifices that you made, the energy and other resources that you all expended in order to secure for me the victory that we recorded on the 18th March, 2023. I am eternally indebted to you for such show of unalloyed love. That is why I said, let’s meet so that I can vividly express my heartfelt gratitude to you and to assure you that your efforts and sacrifices will not be in vain because I am poised to reciprocate the gesture with unrivaled representation”, he stated. 


He told the gathering that so far, he has two bills and one motion to his credit, which are a motion for the resettlement of Ntak Ikot Akpan airstrike victims in Essien Udim LGA by the Akwa Ibom State Government, a Bill for the establishment of Ibom Oil and Gas Corporation, and a Bill for the establishment of the Akwa Ibom Economic Stabilization Reserve Fund, which seeks to establish an Economic Stabilisation Reserve FundFund. 


Prince Akpabio who used the occasion to announce his membership of twelve House Committees which includes; Chairman, House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges, Deputy Chairman, Committee on Economic Planning and Development and Member Committees on Health, Boundary & Conflict Resolution, Science and Technology, Security, Youth & Sports, Rural Development, Water Resources, Power, & Public Utilities, Finance and Appropriation, Works and Transport, Environment, Judiciary, Human Rights and Public Petitions as well as Lands, Housing and Urban Renewal.


On his plans for Essien Udim students in tertiary Institutions, the lawmaker told the stakeholders of his plans to kick start an entrepreneural development training programme using the University of Uyo as pilot phase, through the Justice Nsima Akpabio Foundation in conjunction with the Skills Acquisition and Rural Development Center, University of Uyo, in partnership with MAGVOILE College of Arts, Science & Vocational Studies & University of Uyo. The first batch of trainees will kick off before his first 100 days in office.
