2027 Race Gathers Momentum as Esit Eket Stakeholders Rally Behind Dr. Eunice Thomas for Reps Seat

Political momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections gathered pace in Esit Eket Local Government Area on Tuesday, as key stakeholders and party leaders unanimously endorsed Dr. Eunice Thomas as their preferred candidate for the Eket Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

The endorsement was the outcome of a high-level consultation meeting held at the residence of prominent political leader, Elder Benjamin Udobia, where leaders across party structures and community blocs converged to deliberate on the constituency’s political future.

Speaking at the meeting, the Executive Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Council, Mrs. Uduak Ikemesit Ikott, described Dr. Thomas as a timely and divinely inspired choice, expressing confidence in her capacity to deliver effective representation.

“Dr. Thomas is God-sent for a time like this, and I am confident that the God who has sent her will stand by her till the end,” Ikott declared, affirming the area’s full acceptance and support for her candidacy.

Adding his voice, former member of the House of Representatives, Barr. Bassey Dan Abia, underscored the significance of unity in political decision-making, noting that the overwhelming endorsement reflected the collective will of the people.

“A people united in purpose will always make their position clear,” he said, pointing to the resounding voice vote that affirmed Dr. Thomas’ candidature as evidence of broad-based acceptance.

In her remarks, Dr. Eunice Thomas expressed appreciation for the consistent support she has received from the people of Esit Eket, noting that their backing has remained steadfast since the onset of her political journey.

“I am here to say thank you. Since the beginning of this journey, I have enjoyed immense support from Esit Eket,” she said. “I do not need your support—I know I already have it. What I seek now is the support of those who are yet to stand with me.”

She further emphasized her readiness for the task ahead, framing her ambition within a vision of service and impactful representation for the constituency.

Providing historical context, her husband, Hon. Sam Ekpenyong, highlighted the constituency’s tradition of rotational representation, stressing the need for fairness and inclusivity among the component local government areas.

“Representation in this federal constituency has reflected a fair spread over time. Leaders such as Eseme Eyibo, Dan Abia, Ekpottai, and Pat Ifon have all served,” he noted, adding that maintaining balance across the constituency would strengthen unity.

The meeting concluded with prayers led by Elder Benjamin Udobia and cleric, Pst. John John, signaling a unified and coordinated political front ahead of the 2027 polls.

Among those present were political appointees, party executives at chapter and ward levels, aides to the governor, and other critical stakeholders, underscoring the weight of the endorsement and its implications for the unfolding political landscape in Eket Federal Constituency.
