EFC 2027: Ibeno Traditional Rulers Council Endorse Eunice Thomas for House of Reps





The Ibeno Traditional Rulers Council  has thrown their weight behind the aspiration of Dr. Eunice Thomas for Eket Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives in the forthcoming elections, declaring that the time has come to give women a fair opportunity in political leadership. 


Speaking during a consultative meeting held at the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Ibeno in Iwuokpom, the Paramount Ruler of Ibeno Local Government Area, HRM Owong Amb. (Prof.) Effiong B. Archianga (JP) emphasized that society consists of both male and female, and equity demands balanced representation. 


He noted that while men have long dominated the political space, the people of Ibeno are now ready to support a capable woman, describing Dr. Thomas as “tested and trusted.” stressing the need for a competent hand who understands governance and grassroots development. 


Recalling her track record as a former member of the State Executive Council and board member of the NNPC, he expressed confidence in her ability to deliver quality representation, assuring that she would not disappoint Ibeno and the entire Eket Federal Constituency if elected. 






The monarch also called on the people to unite and rise for greater development, noting that under his reign, Ibeno has witnessed remarkable transformation, which he likened to a “mini-London,” achieved through inclusive leadership and consultation with chiefs.


In a show of solidarity, village heads from across Ibeno echoed the endorsement, citing Dr. Thomas’ longstanding contributions to community development. Obong Asukpa Udoeka, village head of Itak Idim Ukpa acknowledged her impactful deeds and affirmed her deservingness of support based on her proven antecedents. 


Obong Dennis Esenem of Mkpanak assured her of total backing from his community, urging her to proceed confidently. Chief William Monday of Idung Abasi Okure declared that no obstacle would hinder her electoral success, while encouraging her to sustain her developmental strides at the national level. Similarly, Chief Okon Mkpa of Inueyet Ikot recalled her humility and effectiveness even in earlier roles, noting that she not only served diligently but also attracted tangible benefits to local communities.


In her earlier remarks, Dr. Eunice Thomas expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she has gotten from Ibeno people over the years and reaffirmed her commitment to people-centered leadership. 


She highlighted her experience as Special Assistant to the Chairman of the NDDC, where she facilitated infrastructural development including roads and electricity. 


She recounted that in her several positions in power, she has made direct intervention in improving academic performance in Ibeno schools, particularly in Geography, as well as her investments in markets construction, skills acquisition, and SME development, where beneficiaries were equipped with starter packs. 


Emphasizing her passion for humanity, she described her mission as addressing real societal challenges such as inability to pay hospital bills and school fees, lack of development of SMEs, noting that these are the “common enemies” she seeks to fight through responsive representation. 


Declaring that she possesses the competence, compassion, and capacity required for the role, Dr. Thomas assured the people that she is ready to represent and uplift Ibeno and the wider Eket Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber.
