Onofiok To A'Ibom Councilors: Acquire Knowledge To Be Productive In Legislature.. As NILDS Workshop Commences



The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke has tasked Councillors of the various Wards in the State to take advantage of the various capacity building openings to gather knowledge so as to be productive and effective in carrying out their mandate in the Legislature.

The Speaker who was making remarks today during a two day program on Parliamentary Management facilitated by National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly noted that it was very important Akwa Ibom had intelligent men and women who would sit to discuss issues bothering on the development of the various sectors of the State economy advising them to take a cue from Akwa Ibom sons who have rose to the apex of the legislature having started the ladder as Councillors.

Barr Luke paid special tribute to the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for making possible the hosting of the seminar stressing that the collaboration between the Legislature and the Executive would be sustained for a better Akwa Ibom.

While asserting that the mind can only be developed through sound leaders, the Speaker who is the Host of the workshop being the Chairman House Advisory Committee on Parliamentary Matters, expressed the hope that some of them would find in the legislature a career through focus, consistency and dedication in the Parliament.


The State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo while congratulating the Councillors for the various roles played that saw to his being elected to serve for a second term in office noted that the workshop was very necessary as development must be firmly roots in the grassroots.
He assured them that his administration would continue to partner with relevant sectors and bodies to equip them with the relevant tools to discharge the duties in the local government legislature properly as those they serve at that level of governance look up them for answers to questions. 

The governor commended the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke for ensuring that the workshop became a reality while also tasking the Councillors to make good use of the various experiences shared which will rub off positively and improve as well as boost their performances.

Today featured paper presentation on topics including Legislative power of Local Government and Inter-Governmental Relations In Nigeria is by Prof. Omoregie Edoba, Legislative Practice and Procedure for Local Government by Dr. Shuaibu Danwanka, Change and Total Quality Management for Local Government by Dr. Chris Itsede and The SDGs and Local Government by Prof. Ladi Hamalai.
