IDEA Celebrates 2nd Anniversary, To Empower Students, Widows



A  foremost skills acquisition centre in Akwa Ibom State, Ibom Development Empowerment Assembly has concluded plans to celebrate its second year anniversary tomorrow Saturday.
In a pre-media briefing recently, the national coordinator of the group, Dr Markfre Ekefre said that the centre which was established in 2017 has academicians and professionals who have the mandate to impart knowledge that will lead to practical skills for students who are direct beneficiaries.
The program which he noted was free, cut across training in computer appreciation and its accompaniment, tailoring, hair dressing and barbing, expertise in confectionery among other very strategic training and skills.
Dr Ekefre, a Journalist, who is also the Publisher of Highlights and the current Newspapers said 
"We are having the second anniversary of Ibom Development and Empowerment Assembly (IDEA), as it may interest you to know, IDEA was founded on 1st July, 2017 and it is driven by technical know how of academicians, technocrats, seasoned administrators as well as other professionals, all indigenes of Akwa Ibom state with the purpose to contribute to the growth and well being of Akwa Ibom society in the areas of training and provision of empowerment to women, under privileged, widows and orphans across the local government areas of the state "

Ekefre added that they have also carried out free medical outreach, settlement of medical bills for sick persons, visit to prisons and general empowerment of the people among others.

He noted that events marking the second year anniversary will witness the graduation of over 40 trainees sponsored by IDEA where certificates of completion and starter packs will be given to them according to their areas of training to start their own businesses.

"As we are celebrating the second anniversary of IDEA in July 6th, 2019, we are also graduating the first batch of our trainees after the free one year training in which certificates and starter packs will be given to successful candidates"

The event according to him will have the Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo as Special Guest of honour amongst other notable men and women across the State and beyond.

AKHA Defers Giving Resolution To Extend Transition Committees..mandates Committee to verify performance of councils

  By Asuquo Edem Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today put off giving the governor a resolution to extend the stay of Transition Committees across the State. The State governor who communicated his request for the House Resolution dated 6th May 2024 drawing strength from Section 5 sub 2 of the Local Government Administration Law pleaded with the lawmakers to heed to giving the resolution to extend the tenure of Transition Councils as the Commission responsible for conducting elections require an extended time frame.
