Aniekan Bassey Emerges Flag Bearer For Uyo Senatorial District

The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey has emerged as the Flag Bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party for Uyo Senatorial District after polling a total of 272 votes at the Primaries held today, Monday at Ibom Hall, Uyo.

Other Contenders in the race included a former two-term lawmaker who represented Uruan State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Usenobong who scored one vote and a former State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uwemq Ita Etuk who scored 13 votes.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other external observers, were on hand to witness the process which was adjudged peaceful.

AKHA Defers Giving Resolution To Extend Transition Committees..mandates Committee to verify performance of councils

The State governor who communicated his request for the House Resolution dated 6th May 2024 drawing strength from Section 5 sub 2 of the Local Government Administration Law pleaded with the lawmakers to heed to giving the resolution to extend the tenure of Transition Councils as the Commission responsible for conducting elections require an extended time frame.
