ASSOCIATION OF EKET SENATORIAL DISTRICT MEDIA PROFESSIONALS HOLDS MEDIA SYMPOSIUM ON CORPORATE GOVERNANCE IN AKWA IBOM STATE...As Three Federal Lawmakers, Sir Victor Antai, Three Commissioners, Others Are to Receive Honours

 




The Association of Eket Senatorial District Media Professionals (AESDMP)—a distinguished body comprising seasoned, award-winning journalists and accomplished communication scholars from Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District—is set to host a three-day Media Symposium on “Communication Dynamics and Corporate Governance in Akwa Ibom State.”

The event is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, June 25, 2025 (Arrival) to Thursday, June 26( Opening Ceremony & Awards)

 to Friday, June 27, 2025, at Nissi Hall, Eden Hotel Limited, Eket, Akwa Ibom State, by 10:00 a.m. daily.


The symposium is aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and impact-driven governance through communication. It will feature an impressive lineup of dignitaries and resource persons drawn from academia, government, and the media.


The opening ceremony on Thursday, June 26, will have His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, as the Special Guest of Honour. His Deputy and Patroness of the Association, Senator Dr. Akon Eyakenyi, will serve as the Mother of the Day, while the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Hon. Frank Archibong, will chair the occasion.


The Keynote Address will be delivered by a renowned international journalist and publisher of NewsAfrica, London, Mr. Moffat Ekoriko. The Guest Lecturer will be Mr. Oge Udeagha, General Manager, Government and Public Affairs, SEPLAT Energy Producing Nigeria Limited.


A release jointly signed by the Association’s Chairman, Elder Edet Okpo; training facilitator and Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Uyo, Professor Peter Esuh; and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Dr. (Mrs.) Idongesit Ashameri, outlines a rich academic programme.


Highlights include:


Professor Herbert Batta, Professor of Science Communication and Media Studies, University of Uyo, who will speak on: “Appraising the impact of Corporate Social Responsibilities of Oil and Gas Companies on the Akwa Ibom Development Process.”


Professor Peter Esuh, a foremost scholar in Marketing Communication and Rhetoric, who will present on: “Surveillance Journalism and the Imperatives of Corporate Governance in Akwa Ibom State.”


Professor Charles Obot, Professor of Broadcasting, Development, and Political Communication, who will deliver a lecture on: “Interventionist Journalism, Cybersecurity, and Corporate Governance in Akwa Ibom State.”


Several other eminent professors and communication experts are expected to deliver papers and contribute to the symposium’s broad theme.


On the sidelines of the symposium, the Association will also confer honours on distinguished personalities for their exemplary contributions to public service and good  governance. These include:
