Senate Confirms Ms. Usoro Akpabio as Managing Director South South Development Commission

The Nigerian Senate in its Plenary today confirmed the appointment of Ms. Usoro Akpabio as the Managing Director of the South South Development Commission (SSDC). Ms. Akpabio was confirmed alongside other Board members including that of the Chairman, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche. The confirmation came on the heels of the presentation and adoption of the committee report on the SSDC.

Other Board Members whose appointment were equally confirmed include Rt. Hon. Larry Odey (Cross River), Charles Zuofa (Bayelsa), Dr. Nkereuwem Ebong (Akwa Ibom), Engr. Chika Chinda (Rivers), Femi Oise (Edo), Dr. Charles Enukhowhate (Delta), Thabita Ilia Sallah (North East), Alhaji Yusuf Rasaq Amao (North Central), Hon. Bukola Braimoh (South West) and Joseph Mammal (South East)

Executive Directors include Marcus Eji (Rivers), Aganaba Steven (Bayelsa), Timi Ayibatonye (Delta), Joseph Ugheoke (Edo) and Sony Abang (Cross River)

The session which presided over by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, was marked by commendations for the appointees’ track records, regional representation, and their dedication to national development.

AKIRS secures N1.2b judgement against Ardent Energy Services LTD ....warns against tax evasion

The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) has secured a landmark judgement against Ardent Energy Services Ltd, an oil servicing company operating in Akwa Ibom State. In a judgement delivered on July 3, 2025 at the Revenue Court of Akwa Ibom State, Uyo, by the Presiding Revenue Judge, Maureen-Idongesit M. Udoka, the court ordered the defendant to pay to the Akwa Ibom State Government, the sum of N1.2bilion, including penalty and interest on the principal sum. The judgement was in consequence to Suit No. Rue/77C/2022, filed by AKIRS. With this judgement, which is a major milestone in AKIRS tax compliance drive, the agency warns taxpayers to willingly comply to their civic obligations of always paying their taxes as and when due as there was no hiding place for defaulters.
