Hon. Bassey Bassey Calls for Support for Umo Eno, APC,..Says it was necessary, timely Akwa Ibom was linked to the centre

The Member representing Okobo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Bassey Pius Bassey, has described the defection of Governor Umo Eno to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as timely, necessary and patriotic, commending the governor for his vision and courage to take the step in the collective interest of Akwa Ibom people.

Hon. Bassey, who is the Chairman, House Committee On Environment, gave the commendation on Thursday, June 19, 2025, during a strategic Unity Political meeting between defected former stakeholders and members of Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) and leaders and members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), held in Okobo Local Government Area.

Hon. Pius noted that with the seamless collapse of interests between former PDP stakeholders and members of the APC, a strong synergy has been formed and a formidable force hard to break constituted,  as everyone now speaks the common language  of unity driven by a common purpose in line with aspirations of Governor Umo Eno and President Bola Tinubu.

The cerebral lawmaker stated in his words: "We must commend His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno PhD, for vision and courage in taking his template of inclusion to the highest level. His linking Akwa Ibom to the centre is timely, courageous and populist as it was done in the overall interest of Akwa Ibom people, especially when considering the evolving political configuration in the country"

Addressing his constituents, the lawmaker emphasized that Gov Umo Eno has taken the right step that will place Akw Ibom in the centrespread of national interest and developmental discourse.

"As a team-player and political strategist who has changed Akwa Ibom's political landscape with his template of inclusion,  and bridge-buikding and pragmatic approaches to Leadership, all that His Excellency needs now is our prayers, support and solidarity as political platform was irrelevant in assessing the impact of governance. We all must stand by him and keep supporting the ARISE Agenda. You all would agree that Gov Umo Eno has led us well. Let us follow him for good and more to come as he now belongs in the mainstream of decision-making".

Hon Bassey further argued that, with recent developments, especially with the support of the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Akpabio was strategically placed to attract dividends of democracy that will further reposition the state for multidimensional growth. He therefore called on Okobo political stakeholders to rescind whatever differences or fears they previously may have had and join the winning team.

"Okobo had always been with His Excellency. And we cannot change. 2031 is our destination and we already know and have governor to lead us all the way to our destinations. All we have to do now is to be united in spite of the past as we look with optimism and greater expectations into the future. Our loyalty and steadfastness is all that our governor needs. Trust him, he will not default in his promises."

Present at the event were the Eecutive Chairman of Okobo,  Rt. Hon. Engr. George Henshaw; Commissioner for Sanitation and Water Resources, Dr. Ubuo Effiong Ubuo; former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief (Barr) Ekpenyong Ntekim; and  former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Chief Barr. Peter Linus Umoh. They all toed the line of Hon. Bassey Bassey in commending Governor Umo.  Eno for effectively linking Akwa Ibom State with the centre. They also  described the unity  stakeholders meeting as evidence of colloboration that will further reinforce the structure and fortunes of APC in Okobo, the entire State, and the Renewed Hope of President Bola Tinubu.

Goodwill messages were also given by  former Members of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Chief Asukwo Odiong and Rt.Hon Chrysantus Etteh,  APC Chieftain, Mr Ini Esang among other notable Sons and daughters of Okobo.
