AKHA Speaker Parleys Assembly Staff, Advocates Commitment For Delivery



The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has tasked staff of the Assembly to ensure they deliver on their core mandate for the success and progress of the 7th Assembly.

Rt. Hon. Bassey, who got overwhelming ovation from the Assembly workers, gave the charge on Wednesday when he met with staff and management of the House of the Assembly.

He thanked them for the support they gave h
im when he was Member and Chairman House Committee on Services and urged them to “remain committed to the ideals of the civil service and the Udom Emmanuel’s administration"

“I thank all of you, especially the management of the Assembly, for making this meeting possible. This is actually the first time we are meeting since I assumed office as Speaker of the 7th Assembly. As Honourable member and Chairman of the House Services Committee, I really enjoyed your support. I did my best to ensure that we provided a good working environment for you including this place, the old Chapel. One assurance I am giving you today is that I will ensure every staff gets his or her entitlement and dues. I promise to do more to make your stay here eventful. The 7th Assembly will place premium on your welfare. But you must ensure that you take your respective tasks serious and put in your best to ensure we deliver on our mandate of making Akwa Ibom State effective. You must see government business as your personal business and ensure it does not fail in your time.”

Responding, the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Mandu Umoren, thanked the Speaker for his show of love and concern towards staff welfare, assuring that there will be high adherence to duty call and promptness in service delivery.

 “As Member and Chairman House Services Committee, you brought innovation to the cleanliness of the Assembly Complex and ensured that the staff had a good working environment. As Speaker, we are sure of getting the best,” she said.

Mr. Umoren, who described the Speaker as working Speaker, prayed God to give the Speaker wisdom, guide and protect him throughout his stay in office.

Improved Working Conditions For Teachers In Rural Areas Underway As AKHA Advocates Provision Of Live-In Quarters

Secondary school teachers posted to rural areas in the State would have a sigh of relief as lawmakers of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has advocated to the State Government for the provision of live-in quarters to reduce the burden of transportation and solve issues of accomodation.  This was sequel to a report presented to the House by the Chairman House Committee on Education, Hon. Kenim Onofiok during Plenary today. Hon. Onofiok informed the House that the Committee had invited stakeholders from the Ministry including Commissioner for Education, Chairmen, State Secondary Education Board, Permanent Secretaries to discuss on the matter. The House thereafter dissolved into the Committee of the Whole where the two recommendations of the report were adopted.
