Ime Okon's Candidacy Receives Boost As Ibiono Ward 7, 8 Lends Support




Ibiono Ibom people of Wards 8 and 7  have adopted the Candidacy of Rt. Hon. Ime Bassey Okon to the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.


They declared the support on Wednesday when the PDP Candidate for Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency led his Itu/Ibiono Ibom Unity Project 2023 Campaign train to Ibiono Ibom Ward 7and 8. 


While at Idoro Ward 8, comprising Idoro and Ono villages, the Village Head of Ikot Mbuk and Group Head of Idoro Group of villages, Obong (Dr) Eyibio Udo Akpanobong, JP, acknowledged the honour the PDP Candidate, Rt. Hon. Ime Okon has accorded the traditional stool and promised total support for him and PDP.


"We are aware that our son in Idoro is also contesting for this position. But we will not fail the party which has been in touch with the people and has attracted the few development strides we experienced in this area. We want more and for this access road to be constructed. 


"We will be truthful in our decision and be rest assured that Idoro will vote Rt. Hon. Ime Okon, the PDP and all its candidates."


In his response, Rt. Hon. Ime Okon promised to prioritize the construction of Idoro access road and reactivate the portable water in the area which is the immediate needs of the people.


"I'm aware that a son of Idoro is also interested in this race, but at the appointed time, we will test our popularity in the field as brothers. Within my nine months in office as a Transition Chairman in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Council, I brought electricity to the whole of Idoro. If I am asked what is the major problem of Idoro, it is this road. I will do everything possible to ensure the road in Idoro is fixed when I'm elected as the Federal House of Representative member come 2023."


The 'Utenge' Ibiono Ibom presenting himself to the people of Ward 7 and 8 said he was the Party's choice amongst other contenders during the PDP Primaries. He solicited for support and pledged to remember Ward 7 and 8 with their major needs.


The Candidate appreciated the sportsmanship spirit of Hon. Uduak Godwin and Engr. Obot Nseabasi Edet who also contested for the position but collapsed their structure for him after emerging the Party's Candidate. He said for the maturity they have exuded, for joining him at all the rallies he will make them his eyes and ears on matters which concern the people in the local communities. 


He seized the opportunity to mention few of the projects he facilitated in Wards 7 and 8 while he was in public office as a Transition Chairman and Lawmaker in the 5th and 6th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.


"I can remember during my administration in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, I facilitated the renovation of some classroom blocks at Primary School, Ikot Essien, Primary School, Ikot Ekpe, community secondary school, Ono, Community Secondary school, Idoro and an Ultra Modern Civic Center in Urua Abasi including the rehabilitation of Primary School, Ikot Edung Ekim, my alma mater


The Uyo Senatorial District Candidate and the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey said he is sure of the votes of Idoro Ward 7 and that of Ward 8 as they have been strong supporters of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. 


The Speaker who was represented by his Campaign DG, Obong Godwin Awah said PDP as a family seeks for support for all the PDP candidates, from President to House of Assembly position. 


The Director General of Itu/Ibiono Ibom Unity Project 2023 Campaign Council, Comr. Godwin Mbeke appreciated the massive turnout. He said the PDP Candidate for Itu/Ibiono Ibom is a seasoned politician and an experienced Legislator with great exposure for the Green Chamber's job. 


He urged the people to vote all PDP candidates from the Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, the Governorship Candidate, Pst Umo Eno, the Senatorial Candidate, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, House of Representative Candidate for Itu/Ibiono Ibom, Rt. Hon. Ime Okon and the House of Assembly Candidate, Rt. Hon. Godwin Ekpo.


The PDP Chapter Chairman, Ibiono Ibom LGA, Hon. Enobong Ekong called for support for PDP, acknowledging that development recorded in the area is courtesy of the Party.


Others who also spoke were; Village Head of Ikot Eyin - Chief Benson Akpanudoh, Village head of Afua (Ward 7) - Chief Ndarake Akpan, Former Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Council - Barr. Joseph James Udo, the Vice Chairman, Ibiono Ibom LG Council - Hon. Nsikanabasi Ukobot, Leader Legislative Council Itu LGA - Hon. Edet Effiong Edem, Ward 8 Chairman - Uko Sunday Akpan, Youth President - Cmd Inemesit Nyong Ekanem, Clan Woman Leader Idoro - Mma Enobong Eshiet Akpan Mboho, Woman Leader, Ibiono Ibom LGA - Mrs Affiong Ikpeme. 


Elders, Youths and Women Leaders in Ward 7 and 8, political stakeholders in Itu and Ibiono Ibom LGAs unanimously called for support for PDP and pledged to support the candidacy of Rt. Hon. Ime Okon. 


Also joining the Campaign train were; Hon. Akan Anana - Supervisor on Security Ibiono Ibom Council, Pst Joseph Udo, Chairman Elders forum - Chief Moses William and other supporters.

AKHA Defers Giving Resolution To Extend Transition Committees..mandates Committee to verify performance of councils
