Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District Stakeholders commend Senator Ekong Sampson on disbursement of 100 Million Naira Grants to Students

Major Stakeholders and political heavyweights across Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State have applauded the Chairman, Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, Senator Ekong Sampson, for disbursing ₦100 million in educational grants to 500 students and selected  teachers drawn from the 12 local government areas of the district.


The event, held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the senator’s constituency office in Eket, was described as historic and symbolic, the first of its kind in the history Of Representation in the Senatorial District.



Each beneficiary Of the grant received not less than ₦200,000 under the Ekong Sampson Empowerment Programme (ESEP).


Former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Barr. Bassey Dan Abia, who chaired the occasion, praised Senator Sampson for what he termed a “whopping and unprecedented” investment in education, describing the lawmaker as “the pride of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District and a Politician with human face.


He highlighted the senator’s  robust legislative engagements and effective performance in lawmaking, oversight, and representation.


Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Essien, commended the senator for complementing the Umo Eno-led administration’s Arise Agenda through educational grants, infrastructure support and human capacity development in Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District.


Similar accolades came from a Seasoned  Politician in Akwa Ibom State and former State Chairman Of the Peoples Democractic Party ( PDP), Arc. Otu Ita Toyo, who likened Senator Sampson’s impact to that of past legislative icons from the district. Hẹ assured Senator Ekong Sampson Of Akwa Ibom South Stakeholders' massive Support for his re- election in 2027.


Other dignitaries, including the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi, Prof. Leo Daniel; Paramount Ruler of Onna, HRM Edidem Raymond Inyang; Prof. Etiebet Akpan; and several political and community leaders, unanimously lauded the senator’s unwavering and Patriotic commitment to empowering constituents through education, human empowerment and capacity development.


Chairman of the  Senator Ekong Sampson Empowerment Planning Committee, Barr. Ini Ikott, explained that the ₦100 million grant aligns with the senator’s long-term vision to advance education through training programmes, job placements and development initiatives.


Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Torobong Obot and other student representatives expressed gratitude, noting that the support would ease their academic burdens and motivate them to excel.


Senator Ekong Sampson reiterated his resolve to make education the cornerstone of his representation, describing it as the most powerful tool against ignorance, poverty and social vices. 


While announcing upcoming empowerment packages, he stressed that education remains his top priority.


He noted that the grant aims to reduce financial pressure on families and strengthen the district’s educational and economic trajectory, urging beneficiaries to use the funds prudently.


With the N100 million disbursement, Senator Sampson has once again reinforced his commitment to nurturing human capital and expanding access to quality education across Akwa Ibom South.

Improved Working Conditions For Teachers In Rural Areas Underway As AKHA Advocates Provision Of Live-In Quarters

Secondary school teachers posted to rural areas in the State would have a sigh of relief as lawmakers of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has advocated to the State Government for the provision of live-in quarters to reduce the burden of transportation and solve issues of accomodation.  This was sequel to a report presented to the House by the Chairman House Committee on Education, Hon. Kenim Onofiok during Plenary today. Hon. Onofiok informed the House that the Committee had invited stakeholders from the Ministry including Commissioner for Education, Chairmen, State Secondary Education Board, Permanent Secretaries to discuss on the matter.
