In his usual way Of putting smiles on the faces Of his Constituents and also give them a sense Of belonging in representation, the Chairman, Senate Committee On Solid Minerals and Senator representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Abuja, Senator Ekong Sampson, has set up and empowered a Special Committee to disptach bags Of rice in trucks, other food items and Millions Of Naira across the 12 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, in the spirit Of the Christmas Season.
The gesture is in line with a tradition that Senator Ekong Sampson has Instituted and sustained over the past two decades.
Since 2023 that hαΊΉ assummed duties as the Senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, Senator Ekong Sampson has been very consistent and Committed in touching the lives Of his Constituents postively and also evolving programs and Projects that have postively impacted the Socio-economic fortunes Of his constituents..
In view Of the exigencies Of his Office, Senator Sampson has been quite busy of late, with legislative engagements, considering his Position as a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, his involvement in the 2026 budget pre-sessions and presiding over a critical Committee session of the Senate Committee on Education (Basic & Secondary), recently.
Recall that over the weekend, the Senator returned to Abuja after attending the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols, and after which, hαΊΉ accompanied the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio to Oyo State to witness the installation of one of their colleagues, Senator Abdullaziz Yari (Zamfara North), as the Obaloyin of Yorubaland, by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade.
According to details of the Christmas outreach as released from the Office of Senator Sampson, each of the 12 Local Government Areas in Akwa Ibom South has received between ₦2 million to ₦3 million in cash support, alongside substantial quantities of bags Of rice.
Key socio-political segments and groups will also benefit from the largesse, with various sums and bags of rice. Senator Sampson will equally use the season to meet and brief leaders, stakeholders and constituents on his recent programme and activities in the National Assembly.
The Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin has earned reputation as a grassroots politician, famed for his accessibility and humble disposition. He is expected to use the Xmas celebrations to catch up with some seasonal festivities, connect with communities, and watch some sporting events in locations across the Senatorial District.
The yuletide outreach comes on the heels of Senator Sampson’s recent education support intervention, where he disbursed ₦100 million education grant to students from Akwa Ibom South.
The initiative, widely applauded by students, parents and stakeholders, was aimed at easing the financial burden on families and students, while promoting access to education for young people in the district.
Beyond the gifting, Senator Sampson will also use the yuletide to inspect a number of his ongoing constituency projects. These include the Nung Ukim–Ikot Unya Road project - facilitated through the NDDC; erosion control works in Ekeya, Okobo, and the construction of medical facilities at Immanuel Hospital, Eket, and General Hospital , Ikot Abasi, among others.
Meanwhile, a new date for the second component of Sampson's empowerment programme would be announced soon. Some members of the Empowerment Committee are presently going around distributing the Lawmaker's Christmas gift items across the 12 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom South.
The second component of the empowerment, which follows Senator Sampson's recent disbursement of 100 million to Akwa Ibom South students, will feature skills acquisition programme for indigenes, distribution of vehicles, tricycles, engine boats, business grants, among others. Members of the Committee inspected some of the items which are already in Akwa Ibom State, over the weekend.
