AWARDS: CITN UYO & DISTRICT SOCIETY HONOURS CORPORATE BODIES, INDIVIDUALS FOR EXCEPTIONAL SUPPORT

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Uyo and District Society, has honoured corporate organisations and individuals for their exceptional support in capacity development and in advancing the Institute’s mission and professional standards.


The recognitions were conferred at the Society’s 2nd Annual Dinner and Award Night, held at Breakfort Hotels and Suites, Uyo, on Saturday, December 13, 2025.


Speaking at the event, Chairman of CITN Uyo and District Society, Dcns Idorenyin Charles William, said the awards go beyond recognition, celebrating organisations and individuals whose ethical practices, commitment and professional contributions have strengthened the Society’s reputation and standards.




According to her, awards were presented in three categories — Corporate, Members and Non-Members — based on clear criteria of integrity, measurable impact, service and commitment to excellence. She noted that the Awardees represent the values the Institute upholds and aspires to promote.


Declaring the ceremony open, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr David Umoessien, charged the Institute to intensify public sensitisation on new tax reforms and ensure their implementation with fairness, transparency and a human face. He also urged citizens to embrace voluntary tax compliance in the interest of public good.


Earlier, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr Ifiok Udo, described the event as more than a ceremonial gathering, noting that it was organised to honour patriotism, integrity and unwavering commitment to civic responsibility.


In the Corporate Category, awards were presented to ALSCON; New Energy Services Company Limited (NESSCO); Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS); and Thompson and Grace, in recognition of their socio-economic impact and professional support to the Society.


In the Member Category, the immediate past Chairman of the Uyo and District Society, Elder Godwin Owonam, was honoured, while the Non-Member Category recognised the Managing Director and CEO of Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation, Imo-Abasi Jacob, and the Managing Director of TPaul Integrated Services Limited, Mr Anthony Usongo.


The event also featured goodwill messages from dignitaries and industry leaders, including the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service, AKIRS, Sir Okon Okon, Chief Financial Officer of Ibom Airlines Limited, Mr Ofonmbuk Akpan, and the Principal Partner of Myke Etefia & Co., Mr Michael Etefia.

AKIRS secures N1.2b judgement against Ardent Energy Services LTD ....warns against tax evasion

  The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) has secured a landmark judgement against Ardent Energy Services Ltd, an oil servicing company operating in Akwa Ibom State. In a judgement delivered on July 3, 2025 at the Revenue Court of Akwa Ibom State, Uyo, by the Presiding Revenue Judge, Maureen-Idongesit M. Udoka, the court ordered the defendant to pay to the Akwa Ibom State Government, the sum of N1.2bilion, including penalty and interest on the principal sum.  The judgement was in consequence to Suit No. Rue/77C/2022, filed by AKIRS. With this judgement, which is a major milestone in AKIRS tax compliance drive, the agency warns taxpayers to willingly comply to their civic obligations of always paying their taxes as and when due as there was no hiding place for defaulters.
