In his continuous desire to ensure the human capacity development of his constituents, member representing Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, Rep. Mark Esset, PhD, has sponsored a 1-day Strategic Training of 100 youths and women of Uyo Federal Constituency in Agri-business with focus on cocoa farming.
He further advised all the participants to take advantage of the training and be committed to acquiring the necessary knowledge of cocoa farming and the business aspects of it.
Esset gave the advice at the end of the 1-day training which was hosted at the Civic Centre, Ibakang Village, Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
The training, sponsored by Rep. Mark Esset, in collaboration with Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR), Lagos, had 100 trainees in attendance.
Rep. Mark Esset congratulated the participants for being amongst those selected to benefit from the training, urging them to attach a high level of priority to the largesse.
Esset emphasized that cocoa farming is a very lucrative agriculture practice, noting that, agriculture is the mainstay which is helping in ameliorating hunger in the country.
He charged the participants to be dedicated to the agriculture practice/business training which will assist in the enhancement of a more output in their agricultural practices, going forward.
The federal lawmaker who was flanked by his amiable wife, Dr. Dorcas Esset, PhD, charged the trainees to put to judicious use, the cocoa seedlings and the financial grants, stressing that, he will not rest in his oars till he impact positively in the lives of the entire constituents of Uyo Federal Constituency.
"My philosophy of politics is human capacity development, wealth creation and viable empowerment. My commitment is to churn out a visible representation and I assure us that more of such trainings will come up periodically", Esset assured.
In his reaction, Mr. Gideon Oluwatobi, who spoke on behalf of the organizers, Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR), Lagos, applauded the Federal lawmaker for always taking the human capacity development of his constituents as paramount.
He also encouraged the trainees to take the training seriously and maximize the empowerment fund by investing into the purpose it is meant for.
Giving a brief overview of the training, the Resource Person, Prof. Mandu Essien-ibok of Vika Farms Limited, Uyo, said the essence of Rep. Mark Esset sponsoring the training does not only impart essential agro-allied skills, but it is aimed at facilitating hands on training and financial support for agro-bussiness start-ups.
Prof. Essien-ibok gave a lecture on introduction of cocoa farming, the usefulness of cocoa, how to cultivate cocoa, the processes of involved in achieving good yield of cocoa, harvesting and post harvest treatment etc.
High point of the training session was the presentation of cash of ₦100 thousand with cocoa seedlings to the 100 trainees, by the sponsor, Rep. Mark Esset, with a promise that the training will be periodically and assured that other sets of constituents will be beneficiaries, going forward.
Recall, Rep. Mark Esset had previously sponsored 200 women and youths on Animal Feed Production with empowerment fund. He also facilitated the training and empowerment of 100 women and youths of his constituency on Artisanal and Small Scale Kaolin Mining with an empowerment fund of 5million naira. Also, he sponsored a training and empowerment of youths on Pig Value Chain Production (Preservation, Processing and Packaging) and another sustainable capacity building training on agriculture for over 200 trainees with 20 million empowerment fund.
Most recently, 234 Students received ₦100,000 educational support grant each; 150 petty traders and Small Medium Enterprises operators, received ₦100,000 each as business grants and he sponsored 100 constituents on snail farming with ₦100 thousand start up grant
